    Stefan,
Nice ACAD work. One thing that troubles me is the length. Although the original is 12.mm long (from under head) I fear these may be to short.

If owners have replaced the lens gasket, which is thicker than the original, then the lens cover will be set further away from the fixing holes. For me they need to be 16mm long min.

The head dimension is also critical

Those screw holes in the lens are notorious for cracking. I put a small o-ring or x-ring behind the screw head and just snug them.

Yes - originally, there was a plastic washer behind the head to seal and spread the load - you can see it in the photos Matthias posted at the start of the thread. Long since disappeared on many cars along with the correct screws!
BTW these were my photos, we got started looking for these some time ago... I was missing these from my Dinos and used a similar M4 from McMaster Carr.

OK I will get the stainless screws ordered from the link 4CamGT showes.

The head will have a slightly different apearance as shown in the CAD comparison. Is that fine for you guys?

No, not for some of us. The CAD comparison shows clearly that the head is a Pozidriv type. I would not use a Pozidriv screw on a Dino. Not period correct to me - and not the correct type to use on a fragile plastic lens (the main advantage with the Pozidriv is the higher torque possible). I would use the Phillips head screw and turn the head diameter down.

Correct, if the head is not high enough in the lens then use an extra plastic washer

Sorry to be the troublemaker, Stefan DinoParts. I know we are a difficult crowd to please around here. But since you asked for our opinion, we have to give it.
For most halfway normal people, I am sure the version you planned will be perfectly OK. But I and a few others would not like the Pozidriv head. That's all I wanted to say.

Tend to agree with Lars on this, to get something close to the original is near impossible as most standard machine screws are to big. The M4 x 0.7 mm thread is OK. However i found some machine screws which match the original but are too long.

    from Left to Right

The 1st screw is the original, the next is the unmodified captive M4 screw but with 6.8mm head and Philips drive, the next is one i modified to suit my car. I made them longer so they actually sit into the lens holder better and because of new gaskets.

The last one is a standard M4 machine screw but the head diameter is 8mm and doesnt fit into the recess of the lens cover.

Downside is that these are nickel plated and after re-threading they will need coating to prevent rusting.

I don't think I have ever had so much interest in watching talk about these screws.

No worries. That's why I asked and pointed it out. Will try to source some with philips heads then but fear will have to compromise with a less high head that needs to be corrected with a thicker washer.

Making a few longer ones will not be a problem.

What was the outcome of all this please ?

My indicator units are off the car right now. The lens covers had been held down with self tapping screws and we recently cleaned up the threads in the housings which will now take M4 screws easily again.

Right now I have nothing that will work at all.

I love McMaster-Carr. Great source of things you'd never find otherwise.
