@Eilig The Workshop Manual (WSM) appears to use different nomenclature than we are here. Try this instead, all directly from Ferrari: F12tdf’s engine is the F12berlinetta’s 6262CC 65° V12 on which Ferrari engineers worked to boost maximum power output from 740 CV to 780 CV at 8.500 rpm, yelding a specific power output of 125 CV/l. The engine’s sporty response is assured by a maximum torque figure of 705 Nm (up from 690 Nm) at 6,750 rpm with 80% already available at 2,500 rpm, resulting in unparalleled, progressive pick-up all the way to the red-line at 8,900 rpm. Numerous modifications have been developed for this engine, starting with the use of race-inspired mechanical tappets and variable-geometry intake trumpets used on Formula 1 cars which help boost volumetric efficiency at high revs. Relevant images from the videos: Image Unavailable, Please Login (see yellow highlighted area and compare with that of the 812SF below) I believe those parts in the F12TDF engine are from the 599XX race engine Image Unavailable, Please Login
1970 Chevelle SS454 as example. LS5 spec engine w/hydraulic lifters, LS6 spec engine w/solid lifters. Race-inspired LS6 engine performs better and favored over LS5. Cost considerably more as well.
You will hear F12tdf acceleration described as "exploding" or "leaping." This is no exaggeration. Solid lifters are part of the reason.
I have solid lifters on a race bike and I'm glad there are only four. Yes, they are required for high rev and crazy fast response (which is really sweet) but shimming them is tedious and titanium valves need replacing after the second shim. Doing 48 of them would not be fun. And DLC coatings are great until they start wearing (even F12 are DLC coated). Finger followers are pretty cool; however, the bearings eventually go so I think I would rather have those or just plain hydraulic overhead cam lifters just due to reliability. Solid lifters also don't have a lot of area to hold oil so not great for an engine that sits long.
Honestly both engines (812 and TDF) are beyond incredible- as is their exhaust. I think the TDF engine makes a little more mechanical engine sounds whereas the 812 seems a touch more refined. The TDF exhaust is a little more raspy and old school sounding to me, but the 812 sounds just a touch more engineered- as if they said this is how its supposed to sound vs the TDF sounding just what it is. I found the 812 added this sensation when shifting- it was as if the atmospheric pressure around the car changed drastically with each pull of the lever. Both are truly amazing cars. But if we are getting into the weeds, my own opinion is the TDF engine is more special. But now this is the special of the special of the special vs something that is the special of the special. It's like comparing a 14 layer cake to a 12. If thats in front of you, you win
Yes without the GPF. I dont have the same time driving the car with the GPF. But friends say its quite good!
Have said friends driven both (with and without GPF) for true/fair comparison? Most I know who've compared 812 with/without GPF say it yields 25%-30% less sound with.
Yes. They all traded 812 SF for GTS. They just say it's different but still very pleasing- and the difference is really not as big or as bad as they were worried about. The thing is- what sounds "good" is entirely a subjective matter. But, since its spread across enough people, Id think they are likely right.
A fourth one sold There’s been a discrepancy in UK rhd cars vs the LHD market but given how many sold now ( around the £900/£950k mark) that leaves only 2 low mileage cars for sale one at about £1mm the other one £1.1mm. It seems UK now start to realise those cars here are cheap vs USA & Europe.. finally
Shmee uploaded a video of him driving the Merit Partners TDF on Sunday. He seemed quite enamored by it so I wouldn't be surprised if he bought one, nor would I be surprised if he influenced the four sales.
I’d like to think people who buy tdf ( and spend that kind of money) know what they are buying and why they are buying. No doubt his video is another reason to reassure a buyer of how special and unrepeatable that car is, whether it’s the reason that pushes wealthy individuals to buy i doubt it. Also at least 3 out of those cars sold before the video uploaded on Sunday
I am one of those and totally agree (pre gpf sf to GTS). It’s a very different sound tonal wise but I love it and wi5 the valve control it’s brilliant imho.
https://www.romansinternational.com/used-vehicle-details/Ferrari-F12-TDF-U1522/ Pretty nice car - launch spec delivery mileage proper collector its tempting.
132 miles for a 2016 car. I want to cry. Not for the owner, but the car. It deserves so much more, and better.
