Is the F355 gas cap vented? Today I took my car out for a ride with half tank (or maybe slightly less) and after a spirited drive I was not able to put any gas in it for about 5 mins because of the outward pressure from the tank...

I then looked at the gas cap and it's a solid piece of aluminium...I thought they were vented with a rubber seal on the inside? OR that is only newer cars (i.e. 360 and newer)?

When mine is hot there is pressure in the tank but it vents quickly when I take the cap off. You may have a plugged or non-functioning valve somewhere. When I fill mine, I can hear a whistling noise that I believe is air venting as the gas goes in the tank, so there is a vent that I believe goes through the charcoal canister. Check Ricambi for the diagrams and you'll see there are a couple of valves in the system.

I just had the fuel block recall done on the car -- could this have changed the behavior at all? I don't think I encountered this problem before I had the recall done.

When I release my cap it vents. When I fill, I hear a whistle sound...

My 348 does the same thing. Never a problem, just wait till it stops venting.

Gas caps haven't been vented for a long time.

That is not a photo of a 355 gas cap. Inside the cap is a solid rubber "gasket" about .07"-.10" thick bonded to the inside of the cap. They can come off, just re-glue it needed.

That is a 360 gas cap -- my post was in response to 2NA saying that gas caps have not been vented on F-cars for a while...

My F355 does not have this vent (obviously); I think my gasket came off at some point since all I have is the glue inside of the periphery of the cap.

Which also begs the question -- would a vented gas cap help the F355 owners who either have negative or positive pressure inside the fuel tank?

Interesting. After stopping for fuel after a spirited run in the F355 the gas cap practically launches into my hand when I open it. I learned to take it off very slowly or at least be ready to catch it when it comes free. Is that normal?

ok bringing this thread back to life. A few questions were unanswered above.

And I do have the same thing happening that whenever Im about to fuel up, while taking the cap off it releases the pressure for about 3 seconds.

Well I just recently bought a new gas cap. And the inside the cap there is a difference in the rubber seal. Was there a design change?? anyone know??

I'm not sure if they updated the gasket of not, but it IS normal for it to vent.
It could be the two way breather valve, as shown in the picture (the red thing). I replaced mineas it was a little plugged up.
When you remove it you should be able to blow in the line.
But yes the tank should be under pressure.
