Nope! You can never be sure what has happened deeper down and so, especially with this car at risk and its performance potential, a new tyre is necessary. Amazingly, they have gone down slightly in price.

If you need to do more dyno runs, I would suggest you remove all negative camber. That setting you used is for racing where corners are involved and suspension movement, etc.

Remember R888 have a shelflife/lifetime of 18 months after production. You've had them for a while, they might simply be getting old. Dynow also use traction-aids on the rollers which adds a bit of heat. But i secon the idea of removing camber for dynoing.

Thanks Pete, very good point and seeing as we might have one final run if we change our exhaust to reduce DB's, we will do exactly that. Interestingly we didn't have any blistering when we were running around 600HP but the change in turbos and thus torque and increased HP proved just too much.

An overhead shot taken with a very wide angle lens which unfortunately distorts the front clam, and rather than tapering in as it does in reality by the doors, it appears straight. The rear also looks a bit odd but overall it still looks pretty good.

Seeing the car nearly complete is getting me itching to make a start on my own project, so frustrating just waiting in the wings, but this thread is a fantastic resource tool now for the future, roll on 2015 :)

I can't tell you how much I have enjoyed reading your account and the modest way in which you deal with everything thrown at you.
So glad that it came out just as you planned.
I was drawn to it via post on exiges, com where everyone is super-impressed by your efforts.
I hope I get to see the car in the flesh sometime.

    Last post for Christmas.

This is the carbon tunnel control panel. The Motec unit has four Maps and we have them currently calibrated as:

Position 1 600HP for everyday use
Position 2 650HP for fast road or general track use
Position 3 700++ for hard track use
Position 4 we have left free in case we decide to run race fuel when it would probably put out 850, but for how long.

The great thing is that the 600HP setting is made at only approx 1.1Bar so it should be relatively unstressed for general road use.

A very Happy Christmas to everyone who has, and continues, to follow this thread.

    Happy Christmas to you, too!

Sorry about my ignorance, but roughly... you get the different power settings by adjusting turbo pressure only or rpm and/or other stuff like injection...?

Boost pressure, fuel flow and ignition timing I believe.

You don't want good tires on the Dyno as they will just be shredded on the Dyno anyhow with the tread from the rollers.

Car looks amazing! Great work on all fronts.

Thanks again for sharing the journey. Without all these pics, no one would have known what went into the process and wouldn't have as much appreciation for the end result.

This is disappointing to hear at best. You have always strived for originality, and went out of your way to stay true to the original F40 legend. But this change is disconcerting; by removing the turbo lag you are removing the soul of the F40 itself. The turbo lag was always one of the fundamental traits of the F40.

This will indubitably make the car easier to drive, but this car was not supposed to be that. It is a man's car. What you have done, essentially is broken the tiger's legs. Where will be your sense of achievement? Mastering an F40 with no turbo lag is like winning a rigged fight; not fulfilling at all.

I don't want to overstep the boundaries of good manners here, and let me just say that I have all the respect in the world for you, but I feel strongly about this and I must say it: I am concerned that you may just have ruined the car have and nullified all your previous efforts.

More photos, more updates...encore, encore. This thread still has a lot of legs. (I hope).

PLEASE tell us it's not over? It'll ruin 2015 if it is.

I think you misread the post but you need to read further back to be able to sensibly comment. With the larger turbos we were not getting boost until 5,000 revs, that was the 'before', and that is not how the stock motor even performs as it generates boost lower down than that. That is what I was referring to as 'before'. Someone here will correct me but I think Autocar found that a standard car is at max boost and torque at 4,000 revs so call me a tiger leg breaker for a criminal 200 revs!
