Wow, thanks for sharing. I have not seen most of those. Ferrari made the right choices when they made the changes for the production cars. I think the production mirrors, rear window and one less vent on each side look better. Just too bad they all didn't have those sliding windows. From what I have read only about 15-20% had them.
These are great shots, Joe. Other than the dash, do you know of any other differences in the interior?
So many small differences. The top 2 images are of a prototype, the bottom one of an Eu production car. In the prototype's interior, note the suede steering, the LM seat with quilted pads, the quilted headliner etc. for example. Joe, Great photos! Thanks for sharing. The one on the leaf strewn road is incredible. Is it available in a higher resolution by any chance? Id love to use it as my desktop for awhile. Tim
Tim send me an e-mail and I'll send it to you. Meanwhile here is one of the prototypes in the fall of 1987 at Monza. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Does anyone know, what happened to these prototypes? Are they still existing, converted or even crashed?
Well, according to my notes, eight known F40 prototypes (73015, 74045, 74047, 74049, 74327, 75034, 75052 and 76354) were built. Yes some were converted, for example the most famous of all was 74045. It became one of the USA F40 prototypes. Then it was converted by Michelotto into one of the original F40 LMs. Then it was upgraded to an F40 GTE which is how it exists today! Here below is 73015. Correct, that was 74049, sold in the USA, seen here demonstrating its adjustable suspension at full lift. Image Unavailable, Please Login

Thank you for the pics. I noticed the proto's inner door panel is painted red. Is it still carbon/kevlar or a different material? What's on the dashboard panel facing the passenger seat? Thanks!
All of the F40's with the sliding, light weight windows had red inner door panels. And what you see on the dash is a quick change fuse panel.
Yes, that is 74049. Easy to spot as it sits much higher then normal when off, and by the blacked out lamps.
Still don't know the serial number for this prototype Joe. First picture arriving on the truck. Second picture same car on display. Note the USA type bits added. CH Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
