Some idiots will question doing this simple stuff yourself, but its not exactly rocket science is it ?

 

That 2nd picture made me chuckle. The body just looks funny being lifted up with no wheels.

Great pics, though, Ruf. Never get to see these kind of pictures of supercars.

 

I get excited seeing anyone work on any car themselves out in their driveway, but to see it being done on an F50 just makes me smile.

Mine is getting new shoes today as well. Same Pirelli P Zero Rossos. Could not find the Goodyear F1s anywhere (Pirellis are probably better anyway).

Is it really worth keeping the old set of Goodyear F1's ?

 

Probably not Boxer, and I will have a hard time finding the rears. They will probably get tossed in the next garage cleanout

Nicely done, the way it should be done--patiently and methodically. What did you re-torque the wheel nuts to?

 

IMO, the best thing about this thread is the neighborhood. Very nice neighborhood but nothing crazy. Not exactly where I would expect to see such an inbelievable collection. I would probably SH$T myself if I was crusing through the neighborhood and saw the garage doors up!

 

I wonder how many F50 owners have changed their tires in the driveway. You sir are awesome.

 

I used to play with my R/C cars and change their wheels and tyres after the week end was over. I had great fun doing that. Cant imagine doing the same on an F50..that you own .

Thanks Ben, the wheels were torqued to 500 ft lbs each. Again, the use of an extension bar over the torque wrench allows that level of torque to be reached.

You are right about doing something patiently and methodically. Some idiots argue that doing this yourself is unsafe, and that running loved ones at 150 mph is a bad time to check your work out.

I think running any loved one at 150 mph on a public road is dumb and assinine to begin with. I could never imagine running those sorts of speeds with someone I cared about in the car....just too many variables. Anyone who advocates doing so is just stupid.

I prefer to trust my own work and careful torquing rather than blindly rely on someone else. Call it OCD or whatever you like....I enjoy this type of stuff and find it relaxing to do. When the time comes, the pros will do the majors etc.

 

Andrew, for me , the little work I can do is as enjoyable as driving them.

 

Was it hard to get the 500 lb/ft from the extension? Or was it no biggie?

 

Not difficult at all. The protective tape on the nuts prevents the socket from slipping off. The torque application just has to be careful and controlled so that nothing dings the paint or wheels

Naturally I'm sure 99% of people would be just fine eating food off of the inside of those rims. Fantastic!
