Great thread. I have a 97 spider and my problem is the driver seat will not go far enough forward to expose the hex nuts to remove to fix. Any thoughts how to get the seat out? I’ve tried the advice of disconnecting the Pen and leaving power and still won’t move enough forward. Does not appear to be any obstructions. What am I missing? Thanks.

Not sure this will help but have you tried moving the seat all the way back first, then forward (with everything connected as normal)?

I guess you'll have to find a way to apply power directly to the seat motor.

If the plug is not accessible, the only alternative is to remove the centre console cover (upright section on the rear cabin wall), disconnect the Roof ECU "D" plug and apply power to the applicable contacts on the connector

Pins 1 and 11 power the driver's seat motor. Reverse the polarity to get the motor to run in the opposite direction.

Of course, there is no guarantee that this will work. There may be an unseen obstruction.

Pulled the trigger and repaired the pot as above ... but now my seat is dead... it doesn't move any direction (forward is not possible as it is in the most forward position) but also not backwards ... what could be the cause?

And what's the function of the third wire? You have the black one going to the motor and the white one for the potentiometer. But what about the third? (Is ended with a loop and seems genuine)

Solved :) Thanks for the very good explanation!!! The tolerances are quite small it appears ;)

Now up to the drivers seat :)
