If you are a purist, this isn't for you, but if you love the looks of Fender Shields on your 308, then this may be quiet helpful.
This is a "How To" place your Shields tutorial.

I looked at many different placements of shields on 308s on internet photos, and some looked "right" and some just didn't! And it was made abundantly clear there was no "standard" of placement. So I used 3 rare earth magnets (first photo) until I found what I felt was the most aesthetically pleasing location:

Then I cut a Template to define the location:

And with the template in place and the 3 magnets as additional aids, I could place the Shield properly--knowing you only get One chance.

And here is the result. If you like this placement and want a template, send me a self-addressed stamped envelope and I'll send you one.

That's amazing Mike. Do you have a shot up close after paint and shield in place?

no problem you doing this on your own vehicle Robert...and all the power to you for doing it correctly. I have seen even seen a guy with a F tattoo on his arm, so as long as not hurting anyone else, each to their own. there is even a gentleman on another thread who wants to place the logo on the headrests...again no issues.
but oh man.........I just could not do that on mine. i could live with the sticky or magnetic ones which could be removed.
just looking at the cut is making me nauseous!

Well, I would never cut my fenders to install shields but what Robert did is quite different. Firstly, he installed quality metal cloisonne reproduction shields, not the cheapo stamped variety that we have all seen. These are hand finished and beautiful and celebrate Ferrari's link to racing and bespoke cars and build methods. Secondly, Robert went to good lengths to position and install them in a quality way that is consistent with the position Ferrari chose on other models. He was kind enough to share that information with the community. Thirdly, they are easily removed. How many times have we witnessed f-chatters do Euro bumper conversions, ignition upgrades, etc and not said a word? These changes are much harder to reverse. Clearly I have a dog in this race but I think the car looks stunning!

Um, Vince, I think you are confusing my Adhesive Attached Badges with the photos Mike posted about the guy doing all that metalwork?

I like shields. This is a great tutorial.

I think about doing mine also but I would recess them just like the factory. The problem is you have to position them a bit too forward due to the front bulkhead joint inside the fender. It needs to be done perfectly. The attempt at recessing them above is a good effort but the fit and finish is awful. It needs to be done by a skilled tig welder. Using aluminum foil as spatter protection is laughable. Not too mention too much heat in the weld zone and you are going to warp your fender.

It's really too bad Ferrari welded the fenders on rather than bolts. Then we could all have our cake and it too.

Those look very nicely placed Robert. Any chance you could share a few key dimensions? For example, top point to door opening, bottom point to door opening, and bottom point to black recess/character line.
    Thanks...Jim

    Hi Paul,

    Re shield placement…

There is no hard and fast rule for the 308/328 when it comes to shield placement as they never had them from the factory. The 288gto probably provides the best guidance but the fenders have an exaggerated curve compared to the 308/328 and this limits any easy takeaway.

Here are guidelines provided by another F-chatter:
308/328 - Driver's Side Fender: Using the crease that runs along the fender as your guide, the upper right hand corner of the shield should be 2 1/8" below the crease at the point 2 3/4" along the crease from the door/fender joint. Reverse measurements for the passenger side.

I hope Robert can confirm these dimensions – I think he did a very nice job with placement.

    Best...Jim

Here is another tip (borrowing Robert's photo)...

Align the shields vertically at a right angle to the horizontal indentation in the body. Easy to do with a piece of paper or poster board.
