I was able to fill in some gaps over the last weekend from Sonoma Raceway regarding the 296 GT3. Good news / bad news. I am on the list to get one, but it will be a while. So far - as expected - not only is the prospect of this car wildly popular, orders are prioritized by endurance teams getting the first cars followed by professional teams/drivers, then club competizione folks like me, then in last place collectors who simply want one for their collection. Ferrari will try to accommodate everyone and Oreca is supposedly ramping up production but there are hard limits to how fast they can be built.
we should see at least two cars for the Daytona 24h as the official racing debut of the 296 GT3. Ferrari already received over 100 orders.
and for sure Sebring again with the SuperSebring WEC Weekend (last year of the GTE Cars and IMSA 12h with the new 296GT3's
I miss the GTE/GTLM cars in IMSA. It didn't bother me too much till I went to the VIR round. They really need some separation between the classes for the GT only rounds. Sorry...bit off topic.
I will miss them too, from a drivers point of view, the GTE/GTLM's are so much better to drive.... with the goodbye of the GTE's we will also not have the Michelin onfidential Tires anymore in WEC from 2024 onwards. ACO has requested to develop a special GTLM Kit from the Manufacturers. so lets see if it will be just Aero or also technical specifications.
What is Ferrari going to do for 296 Challenge cars? Like...will the race the V6/Hybrid engine in Challenge series?
Thanks for the reply. Well then since no hybrid in the 296 does Ferrari not feel it’s durable enough yet? Are they using the 488 engine instead?
Nope, 488 until 2024 along with the 296 as available, then my understanding is the races will be split accordingly.
The 488 will make more power than the 296 Challenge car but I am anticipating more downforce and a lighter chassis.

I was told $690k euro with options/accessories/spares package $900k. Have not seen the price sheet though.
Really cool that Ferrari has done this. Also love their new steering wheel. Can't wait for it to be replicated for those of us that love sim racing...great layout so should be popular! Image Unavailable, Please Login
