Hmmm.....I just saw another Top Gear video and it shows the Murcielago time at 1:29:0 which is slower then the Evo8 FQ300 which did it in 1:28:9. I listed the Gallardo's time already. Did I get this wrong or did something change?
They tested it again under better conditions. 1:23:7 Murcielago The first test, they tried to wet the track with a water tanker truck. They ended up with a few deep puddles in the corners, and parts of the track dry...basicly the track was messed up pretty bad when they did 1:29. They admitted that truck was too small to soak the entire track. Murcielago was only one tested while the water was actaully deep in some places.
Cool, ok....but did they also use Stig 2 or was it Stig 1? I just find it hard to believe that its faster then the Pagani around the track. The Pagani is 555hp/553lb-ft @ 2756 lbs and the Lambo being 580hp/480lb-ft @ 3638 lbs. Even with the Lambo having AWD the numbers just doesn't make sense. Edit: Nm....I just found the video online and it looks like the Pagani was tested in the same condition so if they retest it like they did the Murci then it should be the fastest. Unless I'm again missing something.
I do not track my 550; I just drive it on the freeways. When I test drove the Lambo, I found it had too large of a blind spot on the right. To me it is not drivable on the freeways. The 550 has all glass.
Kind of ironic that the Murci's are not on the same price level as the 360 Spiders. Why do they drop in price so much? Still love the Diablo. Since they are coming below $100s now...it is just a question of time I guess.
Murci drops in price, the same way any 12 cylinder ferrari drops in price. Very shortly, you will see huge drops in 360 prices. As far as blind spots go, the 355 Spider has a huge blind spot. With the Murci, you dont need to worry about whats behind you or next to you, you want to change lanes, just floor it and go, whatever was there, will be far behind.
Gary, your point is well taken. However, there are many people, myself included, who's first experiences with sports cars were with vehicles that were a little bit tough to drive. Steering heavy, clutch stiff, and shifting finicky. Not that I long for those days but I do feel that some of these newer cars are have controls that are too light. And I really want heavier controls. I suppose that I am one of those people who prefers a little more "rawness" in my sports cars.
I agree, it exactly the same reason why i prefered driving my 348 to my 355. The steering on the 355 is horrible.
I thought we were talking "light" and "heavy". Horrible is a whole new dimension. And I think you are in the minority with this opinion...maybe 355 owners will chime in (those that don't have allanlambo on their ignore list). Gary
Can anyone here verify that the other lap times posted by Top Gear (for the Pagani, Koenigegg, etc.) were on a wet track? This Top Gear wet-track test situation is confusing.
Yep, the steering on a 355 is horrible. I'm taking steps to fix it, though. Thing is, it shouldn't have been horrible in the first place! 550/575 and just about any Porsche has great steering.
It's not the arrow it's the indian. Personaly I think the 355 spider has bad steering and the gears are loose i rented this car for a day when I went to L.A. and was not impresed by it at all the shifting through gears was childs play and did not feel like you were driving the car it felt like you were playing with it there was not enough of power in your hands plenty of power at WOT and the sound going through the city is to die for but lets get back to the topic at hand. Clax said he loves his 360 spider and he thinks he wants a murci. I think you should go test drive the lambo and then if you feel it's time to get rid of you 360 buy the lambo and if you want to get rid of it later you can always sell it and get the 360 again like plenty of members have said in the past YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE..........You already own a 360 spider now own the murc you wont be dissapointed. P.S forgive my spelling I know it's atrocious
I used to own a 97 SV, a really nice car. Can't say the same about the Murci. It certainly looks great and exotic but based on my friend's ownership experience, I would stay with F for now. My friend's car started to squeeze like crazy inside the cabin after 1000mile and the headlight, the window, the gear lever, the airflow sensor, the cetral look all broke down within 2 months of ownership. Worse yet, the noise inside the cabin cannot be fixed. It is one thing to enjoy the engine sound but it is terrible if one has to suffer unwanted noise everytime one drives his car. I hope the Gallardo is better.
Can you elaborate on the "squeeze in the cabin" comment, as well as the "cetral look". I'm not following what you are saying. And, where is the noise in the cabin coming from? Thanks.
The squeeze is coming from the friction between the leather and other materials inside the cabin when the car is in motion. The central lock problem-my friend would not open the dirver-side door and has to climb into the driver seat thru the passenger side-imagin how difficult an act it is. Net net, these are minor issues but they certainly make the ownership experience an unhappy one.
there are always a bad seed in the batch. It does not mean the whole line of cars are garbage! Why do people always say cuase they heard from one owner that they had some problems, that they should just stay away from that manufacturer? Makes no sense, things happen no matter what.
Yes, i wouldnt let one persons experience speak for everyone elses. I know plenty of people who use Murci's for daily drivers without a single incident. Theres going to be bad apples everywhere, which would be why in a poll in another thread here, the #1 vote for Ferrari to improve on, is reliability.
I have to agree with Allan on this, perhaps the guy with the MURCI had a lemon. Who knows? I spoke to one of the Maloof brothers in Las Vegas who had a Candy Blue Murci and he said it has been a great car and he has had no issues with it. He said his 550 had problems with the Transaxle and the Window Seals didn't work, but that doesn't mean all 550's are bad either.
i have the video of the lambo vs. pagani and i do believe they were both tested under the same conditions.. it was a dry track with a few wet spots here and there..not like the 575M and the Vanquish test where it had been raining and the whole track was wet. Now the gallardo i believe was tested on a totally wet track as well, i would imagine the gallardo to be very fast on a fully dry track.
I would love to own a Murcielago; however, I feel the car is way too outrageous for conservative New England. It fits well in southern Florida, California, Hawaii, and most places in Europe, but seems a bit out of place elsewhere. Even Ferraris are few and far between here in the northeast, and I dont think its for lack of per capita income. Ive got an order in for the new Turbo Porsche Cabriolet with the X50 engine package (450hp, AWD). I see a Prancing Horse in my future but for now I like people thinking Im just getting by. ;-)
