Good morning, I am looking at a " Queen Mary" of European origin. I wish to know, apart from the covered head lights, are there any differences between early models of this Ferrari. I see different electric windows switches. For example some have 4 in the central console , and others have 2 switches in the same console. Can anyone help me decipher from the differences which would be the early model 67 and early 68 from the rest. I do not have vin # yet as I am only looking at advertised pictures. Thank you
The window switches AFAIK, are not a sign of Europe vs. ROW. They changed in 1968 from four to two along with the alternators(1 instead of 2). Likewise, I don't think the covered headlights were "standard" on all European models.
Theoretically it could be either a 1967 or a 1968 based on Hill Robb's book. 11797 is listed as Paris-68, 11839 is listed as Paris-67, and 12009 is listed as the first rhd 1969. The reason I bring this up is that Ferrari numbers and years are notoriously unreliable. FWIW, my car is 13091 and it was built in December of 1969, if we believe the numbers.
I believe 11827 is 1968. It was the 296th of 801 365 GT 2+2s made. Originally consigned to Pozzi in France.
Thank you Bryanp. I do not know if I am being naive here by asking this, but can you give me your source ? This would be very important for me. It would mean the difference of paying 30% additional import tax or not. Thank you
Not a naive question. Most of the regulars in this forum probably have "Ferrari Serial Numbers Part I, Odd Numbered Sequence to 21399" by Hilary A. Raab. It was first published in 1988 and revised in 2001. https://www.amazon.com/Hilary-A.-Raab/e/B00J9CQHGG
The headlight covers only the first cars in 67 and not all 67 models came with it. About the power windows switches, my is 12037 register as a 68 and have 4, because in 69 they stop making the power window vent and went for manual ones (is the little triangular window that goes sideways). It does not have to do anything with if the cars are for Europe or America market. Regards. German PD. Sorry for my English
