Image Unavailable, Please Login November 27, 1954 was a Saturday, but here is an interesting find : a Pinin Farina calendar. I'll let you guess which car it is... (easy! )
You have the wrong year........and wrong day. 27 November 1953 it was and "Venerdi" is Friday. Not 1954. And not Saturday. The car as such is 0356 M. Suffix is not "MM", per build sheets. A 166/MM/53 with a 3-liter engine. Below is a better quality pic, which I have also reproduced in my book about 0356 M. Marcel Massini Image Unavailable, Please Login
Not sure if this barchetta entry is accurate but it does make for a funny read... 1956 Salita al Monte Erice Antonio Canova #18 .. disq for punching Phil Hill
The caption under the pic on barchetta.cc doesn’t mention a disqualification at the Monte Erice hillclimb but a suspension of several months against Canova for unsportsmanlike conduct with Phil Hill during the 5 Hours of Messina 1956...
Just to set the time fame correctly: the 1956 Monte Erice hillclimb was one week before the 5 Hours of Messina. In 1956 Hill was driving in the main European races for the Scuderia Ferrari; very unlikely he would have participated in a minor local hillclimb.
Photo is from Monte Erice and caption states that Canova received a penalty of 6 months in Messina (a week later).
The next race I have for Antonio Canova after the 1956 5 Hours of Messina is the Giro Automobilistico di Sicilia on 14.04.1957. It seems he was lucky that most of the 6 months race ban was during the winter time when there was hardly any racing in Italy.
All very interesting but we are running ahead of ourselves. We are following 1954. Great thread let's keep it simple, please.
Not a lot going on anymore this late in the year in Europe, but still some races in the USA: on November 27th 1954 there were the 5° Running Torrey Pines Road Races. And of course in the southern hemisphere spring had arrived: Cem Milhas do IV Centenário (28.11.1954 at Interlagos São Paulo) and soon in December the first running of the Bahamas Speed Week.
