    OK - I don't doubt.

But that explantation links the bare metal pictures to what we know they are, it does NOT link the bare metal pictures to the article.

Lastly, I see extreme similarity between the bare metal 118 body and the body in the article, which would explain a few other mysteries.

I'm not sure if you want to say the bare alloy car and the one in the article are the same car but if yes, forget it, too much differences...

No, I specifically said that if this car is a 6 cylinder (118), then its likely to be 0546LM, not 0484LM (which is the bare metal car).

What I am unable to understand is why the article would be so blatantly wrong, labelling the car as 6 cylinder 118? Even the cockpit picture is captioned as 6 cylinder, odd! Simply dismissing this as a mistake is not backed by any impartial info - correct me if I am mistaken, please.

There is a picture (will search it) of the engine of the Scaglietti spyder in the article and it’s a 4 cylinders, not 6.

Sure - saw that, but -without sounding cynical- why do we think this engine picture is linked to the article? its a pic of a 500MD engine, no doubt, but where is the link?

Because this pic belongs to a set of pictures I posted on page 65 (post #1609) that was for sale many years ago through an online auction (can’t recall the name, may be maisonbibelot but not sure). You can even see the building reflecting on the body...

Thanks for confirming. I continue to search for any/all photos of 0454MD and I believe it’s second in that grainy photo but I’d sure like a better version.

As we’ve discussed offline your car and mine ran that event together. Not sure if you have seen this video but it’s pretty cool to see period footage, particularly spotting the Mondials!

Yes, thanks to your suggestion I spoke with Eduardo Muñoz both about his father’s involvement with the GP, Bob Said and 0454, and he was kind enough to share a handful of photos too. Many thanks for the reference. I’ve put together a spreadsheet of races the car participated in so now my goal is to gather up any and all photographs and race related stuff for each event. I just love the history of it all and researching the details to learn more about the car.

Definitely! They do look quite similar at a glance or in fuzzy photos. The bulgy hood, rear diamond (or lack of one), and side vents are the easy tells if visible in photo or video. Then there’s the race numbers to identify as well. Of course 0494 seems to have only had a few races in as many months before it was heavily crashed and returned to the factory whereas 0454 raced for over a decade. Has the Bob Said Monza ever resurfaced? Barchetta mentions it was seen in 1975 but it’s hard to know and I haven’t never seen posts or photos about it turning up.

To me the quickest way to differentiate the two cars is the windscreen mounting. 0454/MD has a flat cowl, and 0494/M has a faired windscreen.
