Seems there is at least one common recommendation or something we should at least explore more. I've actually thought it over maybe since the beginning of FerrariChat.com and even more lately. The idea of separating Admin from Rob Lay. I even wonder if I shouldn't post as a user at all. That is the reason I started FerrariChat.com and I really do love participating as a user, however, maybe that is just another price I have to pay as the administrator.

I can't think of anyone really on the list now. Mark and I just discussed this. Maybe just the L-P boys, but those are obvious trolls and not as big of a problem. It is the border line users as Wayne discusses that try to fly just under the radar. When you are that close it is always controversial to take actions against them because not as much may be blatant.

    Status update...

PeterS: Haven't talked to yet. Has my email and invitation to work this out. I will only reinstate his account if we do talk about and resolve our issues.

Enzo: Need to talk, but Pat isn't under any restrictions.

Darth550: Just got off the phone with, cleared everything up about this and past stuff. All good, love and kisses.

I was just eyeballing the user list so it wasn't exactly scientific..... I would be curious to see some sort of graph of the number of users from each particular time zone throughout the day.

Eh.... You just need two accounts. One for Rob the Admin who fixes broken stuff and publishes the newsletter and one for Rob who is just another user. I can think of at least one slightly famous person who keeps two accounts... one under his real name to answer the occasional question and an everyday account under a pseudonym.

As a young and relatively new user to F-chat, I can say that I have learned a lot, both about cars, and about human behavior. After reading Rob's QC post, my first thought was this: Show me someone who's willing to make tough decisions, and I'll show you a leader. Even if a minoriity of the tough decisions turn out to be the "wrong" ones....they were made. Someone had to make them. For that, hats off to Rob for being willing to do so.

Second, I simply wish to thank all of you who have willingly and graciously accepted a younger generation of automotive enthusiasts into your fold. I have laughed hard, been brought to tears, and been enlightened in so many areas of my life through this forum. Its all thanks to the great users that make this possible. Are there issues to be dealt with? I'm sure there are...and I have no doubt that I have been a small part of a couple of them. Is this EVER going to be run perfectly? No. Why not? 'Cause we're human. Unfortunately, it is inherent in our nature as human beings to make mistakes. However, it is up to us as users, moderators, and leadership to act in grace, justice, mercy, and wisdom. With that said, again....thank you. This has been, is, and will continue to be an amazing experience for me.

*side note* I'm sure this has been thought of, but I just haven't seen a post yet. If Rob had two screennames (which is a great idea), wouldn't that be violating one of the F-chat laws he laid down? I'm just curious. I don't know all the specifics of the rules surrounding F-chat...so I'm just asking.

I don't really understand the point of the forum...

From what i understood of internet, anyone should be free to say whatever he wants, even if it's constantly negative, as long as some basic rules (language, racism etc) aren't broken.

Or are you talking about something else ?

With the growth of Fchat, you find yourself a Public Figure ... and you know the kind of abuse they get. Don't let the paparazzi hound you into a Paris bridge abutment.

You find yourself in a position similar to a publisher, asking whether you need to permit a negative article about yourself to be printed in one of your publications. Not an easy decision.

Sometimes you have to just "consider the source" and shrug it off.

I notice that I don't tend to post to say "hey the site is quick today", but I have mentioned (in the applicable thread) when there have been problems. It's the flat tire you notice. So you will see more complaints than compliments. C'est la guerre.

By the way: Nice site. And really quick, today. :D

But consider: getting noticed (even negatively) means that you're accomplishing something. The more you achieve, the more people expect of you.

Perhaps it's sufficient to remind the constant nay-sayers that their comments lose credibility with repetition -- complain constantly, and the complaints receive less attention. ("cry wolf" syndrome).

But all of us get into a mode where we complain about everything. It's not productive, and most people learn to pull themselves out of it eventually -- but don't let it hurt your feelings when you (as a Public Figure) get coloured with the same graffiti spray can, when people are off their feed. With this many users, there will always be some of us in a bad mood, at any given moment.

As they say in the bikini thread: Grin and bear (bare) it. ;)

    Just my tuppance worth.

Can i just say "Rob well done i love what you have done here" and the mods well done also for doing a hard and thankless task, there is not much that i can add of value here as it has allready been said, i dont think that you (Rob) should stop participating on the forums if you enjoy it so much after all it is your playground ;) the one thing i dont understand is this - what happened with Darth?? i log off and he is a good mod, i then log back on and Rob and Dave are at each others throat and Dave no longer a mod or even a consultant?? anyway Rob + mods keep up the good work.

I must say that Wayne is right on the point ! Rob did, does the best for ALL of us. It's unavoidable to have some "contest" with some of us, but he is the boss and he makes the decision to keep the F Chat running the best he can.
We all contribue to make the Chat a FUN place and if some of us have a problem, get on the phone, pm or what ever and get it resolve. Rob is an easy guy to deal with but he has to make the best decision in the Chat interest. Comon boys, we need ALL of you, yours post are important to us so PM Rob and let's keep having F U N !!!

I have to agree with Wayne, this is Rob's candy store and he can operate it any way he likes (within the limits of the law). Whether or not specific current rules are broken, Rob does have the right to make executive decisions about banning users. Rules shouldn't be static, and need to change as things evolve. As the administrator, its Rob's role to make decisions about behaviors exhibited by users that are not keeping with the spirit of this board, and modify the rules as necessary based on those decisions.

As for him having to be above it all, I don't think that's the case either. If someone came into the candy shop and started making trouble, I would not expect the owner to remain calm in every situation before throwing the troublemaker out. Getting fired up is bound to happen. My only expectation is that Rob isn't the one that starts it. From my perspective, the rules as specified on this board only apply to Rob prior to him having to deal with issues. Once he starts dealing with problems, the rules change a bit. Just like the police aren't allowed to randomly shoot at people, but once they are fired at or perceive the public to be endagered by a shooter, they may then fire at the perpetrator.

The way I see it, if we don't like the way Rob runs his candy store, we are free to shop elsewhere.

Thanks to Rob for putting up with all the personalities here. The information and banter is great, and it always amazes me when a couple of hours have flashed by and I'm still reading posts. Keep up the good work and have fun at Indy.

I just missed this, but I think that anyone who has a less than stellar image of Peter should find out what an ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL person he really is. The guy has a heart of gold w/o a doubt.

In the course of FC membership, I've come to know a lot of pretty kick ass people. Pete, amongst a few, ranks tops in my book.

As for diggity darf DA MAN I needn't say anything. Pat of course in the good books.

With respect to Rob's hard work - no one here questions that. It'd be silly to. I'm not going to further this stroke-each-other's-willy thing, but I do think that a little communication will go a long way.
