Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice!
Whoa!! Some new software is peeking through! Whatever you're doing Rob, I like the little bits I've seen tonight. KUTGW! -Daniel
No one freak out, I'm still working through a few bugs with it. It should be OK by tomorrow. I will have some really good news shortly after I test some stuff and fix the bugs. A little hint is multiple...
starting a thread to collect new issues, problems, bugs, and oddities that require attention. sorry if it's in the wrong place rob - please move it as necessary. the "mark all forums read" button is now gone from the "new since last visit" search screen. this is a major malfunction, unfortunately. doody.
I am not a fan of this at all. IMO ( as a webmaster of many large community-based sites) most of the changes that have been added to the site make the ability to view the site narrower (not broader) and prevent the user from seeing as much information at once. There is no need to stack everything vertically and force-limit the horizontal size of the window. For people such as myself who run high resolutions, it is an utter waste of space and is very annoying not being able to view everything in the relaxed format I once could. Rob, at least give users skin options to choose how they want to view the site. I would even be up for designing some skins for you as an alternative to permanently leaving the site in this state.
Having read your post, I hope the "multiple" you're referring to is one of the suggestions that I made Cheers!
*** it's a major bummer that the body of the page won't expand to the width of the screen. for some reason it's constrained at (i'd guess) about 75% to 80% of a 1024 pixel wide screen. FOLLOWUP: ah, it doesn't resize AT ALL. it's a fixed width. is this configurable somewhere? when you size your browser width narrower, it doesn't resize at all - it just cuts off the ends (it's centered, apparently). ditto for this screen, and presumably all others, i'd guess. *** the "post icons" underneath this text entry box when posting mean that you can't tab out of this box and get to the submit/preview buttons - you have to scroll and click that now. can these get moved elsewhere perhaps? this was a nice setup on the old sfotware - ease of entry, and all that. doody.
"wide" profile pics get cut off in the usercp. they show up properly in profile view, but look odd since the rest of the content on the page doesn't get resized. http://ferrarichat.com/forum/member.php?u=120 doody.
*** why does it say "FerrariChat.com Array" at the top left? *** the messageboard content is fixed narrower than the header is wide. sub-optimal on a few different levels. *** never mind on the mark all read - it's back now. THANK YOU!. doody.
Just cool it folks...give Rob a few hours, days, weeks to get things settled down. Many of us are in the I.T. world too, and we b$%ch about stupid end-users all the time. Let's not become those same b$%chy users ourselves. Change is always scary, but I trust our intrepid skipper (Capt. EJ Smith?) will get things right. -Daniel
Hey Rob while your at it, take a look at the message page. The way you previously had it set up was so that you could go back to the topic area after you posted. I couldn't find the button on this latest version. LOL you just love messing with this lil site of yours.
Patience, folks. Obviously things are being adressed even as we type. No doubt, someone will state the avatars on top take up more space: Behold! Pre-edit appearance with one line of text on new layout vs. 2 lines (same as 1, really) of text on old layout. Image Unavailable, Please Login
i think it'll be an improvement guys - just give rob some time to work out the davies brothers. doody.
OOOOOHHHHH multiple pictures works! i still liked the inline stuff on the old board - that was really nice. most of the old board software sucked doggie doo doo, but that one particular feature was damn useful. doody.
Actually one thing that needs to return at the very least is the links across the top of the page that show the forum structure. For instance, if you're in offtopic, it used to give you a link for Ferrarichat.com> Offtopic... or Ferrarichat.com> Regional Forums> Florida if you're in the florida forum. -R
