Finally Got my baby home!! Not all fun and games though.....

Maybe it's been said before in this thread, but you should be glad the selling dealer didn't do the detailing. It most likely would not have been done as well, and whoever did it may well have damaged the paint and you would be way worse off than you are now.

Unfortunately, I didn't know that information at the time. I trusted that they would be able to do it properly. I figured it was a high end dealer that deals with expensive cars. My car is a "low end" car for a dealership like that.
I think they just waxed it, then sent it to me. The only way I know that is because there was wax splatter all over the windows. However, there was no correction to the paint. It needed a LOT of correction. They had to wet sand it to get it proper. I was nervous about that, but it definitely looks good now, actually it's just about PERFECT (except for the hood, unfortunately). The hood is greatly improved, but it does need a proper repaint in order to be perfect.
I am waiting for a proposal for the repaint so I can forward the info to the dealer that I purchased the car from. As I mentioned earlier, they want to do the right thing and take care of what needs to be done with the car in order to bring it to the condition that was promised to me.

 

I've been thinking the same thing. I've never known a dealer to have a good detail department, high-end or otherwise. In fact, whenever I bring my car in for service, I ask them to NOT wash the car because they introduce swirls that weren't there before. My dealer is amazing at the tech stuff, but terrible at washing. The best detailers seem to be the independents, and the best way to find them seems to be word of mouth on the forums.

 

I can't speak for all but the Vegas dealer is one of the best in town. The guy there has 30 years experience and I think because it's a small market -- really takes his time. I've heard the same from others who have used him.

Last time my local dealership washed my car - and it was a decent job by say, Jaguar standards - I thought, "Awesome! Now I have an excellent opportunity to remove some water spots and clay the car again!"

Seriously, keeping up my Ferrari is one of those zen-like things in my life: I just NEED to do it, and it feels sooooo good. I get into the same kind of, "zone" when I'm detailing that I do when I'm shooting (Archery and firearms/Formal targets), or riding motorcycles (Which still tops driving any four-wheeler in my world).

If you haven't felt-up your Ferrari in a while, you're neglecting her. ;^)

this is why carfax is retarded. I have been burned by it. It dindt show frame damage, while autocheck did. and the car was already well into my possession.



Please, for the love of all gods, use Autocheck. You will be surprised what it brings up that carfax doesn't this is why dealers went to using it when buying cars, and using car fax to sell you one.

 

For those of you that are following the progress with this thread.
This morning, I e-mailed a copy of the bill/estimates required to correct car (condition it was promised to me), to the service manager in Florida. It included the detail, alarm correction, and a refinish on the hood to properly repaint the hood. I agreed to take care of the remote control, and the marker light myself. I figured it was a little labor for me, but at least it didn't cost much. The remote control problem was thankfully just the battery. The marker light was a disconnected electrical jack, but I had to remove the wheel, wheel liner, plug the jack in, and replace everything.
Now the ball is in the dealers court for correcting my situation. I will keep you guys posted on progress. I'm hoping to be able to follow up with a satisfactory conclusion to my car purchasing adventure.
On the brighter side, I can't believe how much fun this thing is to drive!! It's like a drug, I have to get out there every chance I get! When is this feeling going to subside? I have a lot of things to do, and they are not getting done!

Chris, congrats on the 360. This is off topic, but my DBS was on that same truck and was offloaded in Roslyn early that same morning. I also have a 2001 360 spider, which I've owned since new and still love. I'm on the island for the summer and would be happy to share my experiences as you get to know your car. Enjoy.

Wow, Michael, that's pretty cool! What a small world. Congrats on your DBS. Did you also purchase your car from Florida? Or was it picked up along the way?
He did mention that he had to stop off in Roslyn before my house. I guess yours was right behind mine in the truck? I would have never guessed it was another Fchatter!
Glad to hear you still love your 360 after all these years! I would love to hear any hints on ownership, compitent shops etc. so far I've had a really good experience with Ferrari of LI. Good luck with your new car as well.

There is a little more to the story now. I was waiting to hear further before I updated here, but since you asked, I owe a reply, lol! The gas cap that was "supposed" to be replaced prior to shipping, fell apart in my hand when I went to gas up for the first time! As you might imagine, I let out a few choice words, wondering if this whole process was a joke! I was second guessing if I was on candid camera. I couldn't believe it, THAT wasn't even done! A very simple thing...screw on a new cas cap, wow.
Well I called the manager this past Monday, who as usual, was pleasant to talk to. He said that he was out of town, and couldn't see all the scans or receipts for everything I sent him, on his phone. He asked if I can re-send the e-mail with the attachments again. I sent him the e-mail again, as soon as we hung up the phone. I also asked about the gas cap replacement, or lack of. He said that they must have ordered it, and the car got shipped prior to the cap coming in (I'm wondering where the proactive phone call explaining this to me was?). He told me he would put it in the mail for me...fair enough (didn't get it yet). I also wanted to know where my registration and title is, so I asked the person who handles that part. She said that she was going to resend another temporary, because my temporary was expiring on 7/11/12. I got the second temporary registration on Tuesday. But once again, Why can I go to Motor vehicle office and get a plate in about 1/2 hr, why do they need so much time? Remember, I bought this car on 6/1/12 (1 1/2 months ago!)...where the H..L are my plates and title?!!
I'm still trying to keep my cool about everything, but I'm slowly losing patience. I'm going to give them Tomorrow, Saturday, and Monday morning to get back to me, or e-mail me with an update about my gas cap, and the reimbursement for the problems. If they don't get back to me by Monday afternoon, I will call them again to find out an update. I will definitely post the results here, one way or another.
I don't know about you guys, but if I was a manager in a dealership, and we dropped the ball on a sale like this. I would have made a very quick appologetic call on Monday when I got back from vacation, then on Tuesday I would have overnighted the check and a gas cap to the buyer who would have had everything squared away by Wednesday, or Thursday the latest. Thursday was yesterday, but I figured it's fair to give until Monday for "clerical" or "approval" type stuff. As usual, everyone I spoke to so far has been pleasant, and they assure me that everything will get taken care of. I am assuming that they are going to do the right thing and make sure that my car is in the condition that was promised to me when I agreed to purchase it.

No title? Ruh, roh. Did you ever see a copy of the title? Big problemo if they didn't have that in hand when they sold the car. Hope you get it real soon and if they claim they have it have them scan a copy of the front and back and send that to you.

 

Ruh Roh is right! Supposedly she said there was some delay, and at this point everything was corrected and sent to the NYS Motor vehicle office. She further stated that I should be getting the stuff within the next week or two, she doesn't expect any further issues. I have bought many cars from dealers (albeit none on consignment), I didn't think there should be any concerns about the title or registration. I assumed that since they are a dealer, they took care of all the legalities. I guess the problem is that I assumed....you know what happens when one assumes?

 

How did you get the car registered in NY without the title?

When I bought my car from out of state, recently, they overnighted the title as soon as I wired them the money. I had the title in my possession while my car was still in transit from the dealership.

 

I didn't, the dealer was supposed to Register it in NY. They are collatoral states, or something like that. I forgot what she called it, but Florida dealers can do a NY registration. I'm riding around with Florida temporary plates now. I should have told them to deliver it unregistered to me. Oh well, live and learn.

 

I'd verify that reciprocal info thing? Call the FLA DMV and NY to make sure that's true and see if there is anything in the system to back up what she is saying? The fear is that they sold the car without having the title and are scrambling to get it. There was the recent story in So. CA about a guy who's dealer sold the car a couple of years back and didn't inform the owner until they started sniffing around? They were out of the country so that's why things fell through the cracks so bad.

Anyway, this dealer is dicking you around. Contact FLA DMV investigations and explain to them what is going on. You're going to have to get tough if you want fast results.

 

Wow... This transaction was a s**** show excuse my French... But it sounds like you were a little bit to trusting! Don't ever pay until you got what you bargained for... You take my money I get my car at same time with everything that is promised to me at that moment. Sometimes that's what happens when you fall in love with a purchase... You just want it so bad you tend to over look things... Oh well lesson learned... I hope it all works out.

 

Florida.. you mean the Southern part of the State of New York? ;-)

When I bought my 360 from Fla. dealership they worked with a "title company" down the road that sends in the title and registers it for you. It's basically an outfit down the road that takes the title and the paperwork, collects it and sends it to the DMV. It took a few weeks, but it did appear on the tax records system and was registered under may name in about a month. It's slower than doing it youself. I did have FAXed documents from them so I could verify legitness etc. I Googled them and even called them and verbally spoke with the title-ing company. Perhaps you might do the same to confirm things?

 

Regretably once they have your money they just don't care anymore. I bought my F car from a dealer in the northeast who assured me that it had "everything" included. All the accessories and books etc. Well it arrived without an owners manual or trickle charger. (Car had only 2 K miles on it). Needless to say after I emailed them about this I never heard from them again. Not a big deal from a financial standpoint but I have a problem with broken promises (even "small" ones).

Hope you get satifactory resolution of these issues.

Just call your lawyer and have him send them a letter, then they might understand.
Trust me, car dealers of this sort will NOT do the right thing. Not after what they have already done to you. Their game is obvious. they ignored your wishes and were dishonest about things. To be frank, it's a little naive to think this was all an accident. Stop playing along with their waiting game, they're trying to wear you down so you'll give up.
