Almost 25 years to the day of buying my first car magazine because it had a cool car called a Ferrari on the cover, I have purchased my first Ferrari – a Black on Tan 1988 328GTS with 24,000 miles.

You will see from my previous posts I was close about 5 years ago, but chickened out – and then earlier this year I thought I had a deal on 1992 512TR, but the buyer and I could not come to an agreement.

I saw this car on EBAY (it is technically still listed) and it was the color I really liked. At 24,000 miles it is very reasonable on the mileage (if not light) relative to the other 328’s I have seen. I called the seller and after a bit of back-and-forth we reached an agreement on price. I thought I wanted a 512TR, but after a lot of research and soul searching I figured for a first Ferrari, a 328 was the best choice.

The car has good recent service records (lacking the first 10 years of history) and has been recently serviced by Ultimate Motor Works in Orlando, which has a seemingly very good reputation.

The car is being shipped Monday from Orlando to Tim Stanford (I cannot say enough great things about Tim – class guy). Tim will perform a major and whatever else needs to be done to the car (I have prepared myself, given what I have read in this forum, for “whatever else” means)

I will be sure to post pictures. It may be a bit before I can post pics as Tim has said if it just needs belts he can get it to me next week, if it needs seals, etc it will be longer. The photo’s on eBay are pretty poor, and given it is my first “child” I need to post better pictures for you ‘all

I would never have been comfortable purchasing a Ferrari if it was not for this forum. I would have felt too uneducated and in some ways facing too many questions and potential issues alone. I have derived so much information from these treads I cannot thank everyone enough – I will be sure now to give back :)

    Best,
    Lewis

Definitely need photos. Saw this car on ebay last night but thought if it goes for anywhere close to $25k than someone stole it. Don't know what you paid, but looks like a fun car. Take it out and enjoy it!

Good job pulling the trigger, you will never look back!

Thanks for the posts - I did pay more than $25k

Car had luggage, books, tools, clean car fax and perfect appearance. Where it lacked was first 10 years service history and it needed a major.

    Will definately post pics.

I am headed up to A Champion Driving school tommorrow morning in Fort Lauderdale. It is a driving school that teaches how to drive a stick shift on their car. I have never driven a manual and I dont want to learn on my 328. A 1 hour and 40 minute lesson on their car is $140 bucks - much cheaper than a 328's clutch.

Anyway, thanks again and pics in a week or so.

Pulling the trigger on a Ferrari takes even more courage when you don't know how to drive a stick! You'll love it once you get the hang of it.

Congrats on realizing your passion! Like others have said, post the pics - that's a cool color combination.

No worries on the stick shift; the Ferrari shift gate helps.

Awesome, congrats to having the best motoring future in front of you.

Learning stick and a Ferrari, I can't imagine how cool that will be, it would be like getting a permit for the first time.

Congrats on your new car. Tim did my last major and the car runs great, you should be able to enjoy many miles fun driving. If you are in the Orlando area, mabe we will run into each other at some of the local events. I will be at the Winter Park show in early Nov. and like to do the cars & coffee in the cooler months.
