I finally picked up the Il Cavallino Nel Cuore book today. What a beautiful publication. It's amongst the best in my library of car books. No better place to learn about the styling gestation of the 308 from its forebears. It's now in plenty of remainder outlets for about £30/$30 if you search Abe Books etc. Highly recommended.

I met the man last year at his home/studio. He autographed the book for me and wrote a nice note. I was on a tour and he did this for everyone writing something unique and personal in every one. A very nice book and a very charming man.

any mention in the book that the 308 is actually and older design than the 365 boxer that came before it?

Just looked this up for you. He says:

Get the book, it's really fascinating and so very beautifully illustrated.

yes, the boxer is more modern aesthetically in many ways. a buddy of mine at pinninfarina and I discuss this decades ago and always suspected this long before this book was published.

I completely agree. I inspected a couple of BBs closely just before xmas & aspects of the rear styling in particular are a few years ahead. I feel the 308 is all the better for being the progenitor of sorts.
