Great question. I have not put them on but someone here (again I don't recall who) manufactured these little fake motor housings that were the exact dimensions of the stock fan motors and they bold perfectly to the correct size Spal fans for our cars. They slid right in the stock fan mounts and *kinda* look stock if you didn't know any better. No cutting or drilling required. They are a simple elegant solution to aftermarket fan mounting. He had them on ebay.

I have them and the fans, I just haven't put them in yet.

I was thinking of a pair of Hayden 8 or 12 inch fans. They mount to the radiator or condenser are light weight, more efficient and way quieter. Draw less amps too.

I don't recall reading test drives from when the cars were brand new "back in the day", that stated the cooling was marginal on them (and back in the pre-internet 80's, I read just about every magazine road test of the 308/328 series that was written! - Still got them too, in my attic :D)

I have all the magazines too. Still on a shelf from when I was 12 on.

Just like anything else, it takes time for issues to show themselves. The QV was only in production 3 years wuth a year or so prior to that for development.

We now have nearly 40 years of observation with these things.

40 years is a lot of data that wasnt available to them then.

I had mine rodded twice and finally recored. Still wasnt enough stuck in traffic in an Alabama summer.

There are a lot of variables to this. Foam is just one tiny piece of the puzzle.

I never claimed Ferrari didn’t make mistakes. Some items like the spoiler are cosmetic. The foam over the core is not one them. My data indicates the fans run longer and cooling is less effective without the foam. Feel free to remove it if you know better.
