This penalty for Sainz is just ridiculous.
Formula One is no more racing between drivers.
Just a matter of Safety car,VSC, red flag, DRS etc..
    Bring back Le Mans !

The next race will be interesting. We had the race of mistakes handing a victory to Norris who can shut up about not having a win and we can evaluate where Mclaren really stand. My guess is that they are still slower than RedBull = Max. Without his careless bollard accident and a suspect / timed - mistake safety car, he wins next time in Italy. For me the only question is Ferrari pace vs Mclaren.

If Mclaren win then we have a more interesting season.

Well that was a far more interesting weekend than expected. New Ferrari 12C unveiled, amusingly named after a McLaren, and then McLaren go and win the race after some comedy FIA clownery. It’s like the Gods have deemed this McLaren’s weekend!

Congrats Lando. Well done young man.

The RB suddenly seems a lot less all conquering than expected. Both McLarens comfortably faster than Perez in clear air shows that right now, the difference is Max. Nice to see that he’s going to have to work for this years WDC after all. He’ll still win of course, but at least we might see more victories for other teams this year - or at least Carlando!

Shame in Miami: FIA mistakes cast a bit of doubt over Norris' win

Nobody in the F1 paddock begrudged Lando Norris his first-ever victory in Formula 1, but fair is fair: the Briton was arguably not the driver who deserved the win in Miami. A massive blunder by the FIA meant Max Verstappen was denied the win. A look back at a string of mistakes by the safety car driver, German Bernd Mayländer.

The 28th and 29th laps of the race eventually proved key. Logan Sargeant and Kevin Magnussen collided, and the safety car was required. Norris held the lead at that point, as - unlike Verstappen - he had not yet been able to make a pit stop. However, the McLaren Briton did not come in as he realised just too late that the safety car was coming. This seemed to ruin Norris' chance to take advantage of the safety car.

    Mayländer made a big mistake
12 seconds after the computer showed that the safety car was coming out, Norris crossed the start-finish line; again, just under five seconds later, he was at the end of the pit lane - where the safety car should normally have caught him. Driver Bernd Mayländer, however, had failed to catch Norris 17 seconds after race control had called the safety car into the track. On the face of it, 17 seconds would have been enough for that anyway, but okay. Then Mayländer made a huge mistake: instead of waiting at the side of the track for the next moment when Norris would pass start-finish, he picked up Max Verstappen.

The Dutchman - at that moment second in the race - had to ease off the throttle, while Norris could continue at higher speed AND was still offered the chance to make his pit stop. Ultimately, this was the key moment in the race: Norris could stay ahead again after his stop, on brand new tyres, to start from first place at the restart. After the safety car ended, he drove further and further away from Verstappen.

    Norris is not to blame
The way Norris managed to drive away from the Red Bull driver in the latter part of the race is admirable. But Norris would never have been in front at the restart if the FIA had responded more adequately and better to the safety car situation. In that case, the Brit would have been sitting somewhere around seventh place at the time and - despite his speed - he would never have managed to catch Verstappen then.

Of course, Norris is not to blame at all. He did what any driver in his situation would have done: take full advantage of what was handed to him on a silver platter. But the FIA should be ashamed after so much incompetence in barely two minutes, with Bernd Mayländer at the centre of it: Was he not paying attention? Did he not realise that Norris was in the lead? A big blunder with equally huge consequences.

Norris' speed was superb. Yes he had a bit of luck and it would've meant he had to overtake Max on track, but he had top speed advantage + tyre advantage + the Mclaren was great on the hards. I think he would've done it.

No doubt in my mind that he won this race.

Seems so and Ferrari had no real answer either. That was very surprising. Again in Italy we shall see what pace/consistency apply for Mclaren. If they are as fast again and fully in contention to take pole/ win etc this will open eyes and Ferrari need to be concerned about not being on the podium at all?

    Good point.

They had a significant upgrade so if it worked we might have a season on our hands. Either way I hope they are there to fight properly anyways, it was really good to see Ferrari and Mclaren being so close.

McLarens upgrades have clearly worked. They had pace in both drivers and they were really kind on their tyres. It’s clear they have caught up. But now it’s time for the other times to start cranking in their upgrades, so let’s see how long this advance lasts. McLaren should be congratulated - they are probably the best team at in season development. Shame they can’t seem to deliver a competitive car from the start of the season.

Yes Mclaren made verfiable steps last year in performance. Ferrari need to work on theirs/implement now. Will be interesting in Italy when Piastri has the full updgrade. I believe was only on Lando's machine.

The real reason Lando won is the "orange" guy - he always wins.

The local radio shows this morning were having a field day roasting the food and drink pricing.

Lmao, bottle of water was $25, 16 ounce Miller Lite was $45. Suckers pay a fortune to sit in a suite and then they rape them n drinks and food. Classic Miami.

It was comical hearing them talk about the costs all while butchering all the drivers names, etc.

I think they should spin a wheel to decide when the safety car comes out if it means the kind of racing we got to enjoy in Miami. :D

Total insanity. Both the organizers and people paying this have quite simply lost their mind.

To me the best part of this race is the fact that Charles is now only 3 points away from Checo.....

One answer to all the SC/VSC drama is to go back to the yellow flag system and put teeth into enforcing it: Violation = disqualification from the race and grid penalty at the next race; SC used only in dire…almost red flag…circumstances.

And, of, course, eliminating the ridiculous tire regs would help. Why isn’t everybody sick of that artifice by now?
