Thanks for that, it saved me looking it up. I think the hype was that it would go for $1mio+

I am a big fan of the show but that was the wrong thing to do with an F40 if you wanted to make money. I suspect that someone will now spend a bit of money putting it back to factory spec. and still end up with a cheap-ish F40 (albeit with previous accident damage).

Let's hope they still to big old american cars and leave the Italian stuff alone in future :D

F40's with no stories have been selling here in the $475K - $575K range for the past year and a half.

Two I know of were sold out of Ferrari of Bayruth on consignment. One went to Japan and the other to the ME IIRC.

Just have to look around. People are dumping them in some places.

Man, they must put something in the water at the RM Auction to get people to pay double the market price for cars. First, the $120K 328, and now the $935K F40...

It was bought by Reggie Jackson. You think he would know better.

Anyone looking to really dump an F40 - I'm your man.

    I mean DUMP! : )

Re: Gas Monkey - I think they bought all original parts with the exception of a few reversible mods. It is not the original chassis color I believe which might bother some. They bought a huge portion of the parts from an fchat member I believe. I bet it was a damn nice car when done.

I am still coming up to speed on a lot of the Ferrari heritage stuff, so please bear with me :).

Looking at this thread lead me to looking at F40s which led me to looking at the F40 engine. It looks pretty darn similar to my GT4 engine except it is longitudinal rather than lateral. Are there any parts that are shared between these power-plants? Brackets, covers, anything?

I am not an expert, however, those seats don't look correct.

The parts manuals for both cars are on ricambiamerica.com. Go for it, do a parts number check. You'll find lots of stuff shared, certainly lots of unexciting nuts, studs and washers at least.

The Ferrari V8 block had minor changes from model to model from the GT4 in '74 to the end of the 360 model run in 2005. Lots of stuff looks similar from model to model but has subtle changes that make them un-interchangeable.

Although if you want to rotate the engine in your GT4 90 degrees and run twin turbos up either side, it's a quick and easy weekend project. ;)
