Ok people, estimate $375,000 - $500,000 ... get the popcorn ready!! https://www.mecum.com/lot-detail/CA0815-219905/0/2003-Ferrari-575M/6-Speed/
All it will require to make the reserve - presumed $375K - will be two very rich nuts each of whom feels that he simply must have the car. If, in this curious little segment of our time, neither stops bidding this car could even sell over the high estimate. That is exactly what happened three years ago when Bonhams sold my old 365GTC speciale. At the time no GTC, 330 or 365, had ever sold for more than $345K (my car five years earlier, when no GTC had ever sold above $250K). The Bonhams estimate was $400K-$500K. My wife and I followed the auction live. When the bidding got to $400K I said to her, if it goes through $500K it will mean that there are at least two nuts who in their minds and hearts absolutely MUST have that car and then there's no telling where it might go - sky's the limit. The hammer came down at $800,000. Winner paid $880,000. The buyer's commission would have bought a very nice 550 at the time! Now that was a one-of-a-kind car, truly unique, that this 575M is not. But the mind-set of at least two bidders tells the story.
P.S. that single Bonhams sale of my 365GTC speciale at $800K is what blew the top off the market for 1960's and early 1970's Ferraris. Suddenly GTC's were offered at $600K-$800K and Daytonas, previously in mid $300s, were now offered at $450K-$650K. 330GT2+2's that had been easily available around $100K-$150K were double that.
Wrong Right, +1 But also funny to hear a wife asking to buy a car instead of nagging and complaining not to buy one
And why not?! Add more fuel to the fire - have bidders on TV throwing cash around - what is better than that?
$10 says they won't air this car. Mecum always skips the interesting exotics in favor of the endless lineup of craptastic resto-modded junk. They know their audience and advertisers very well.
Normally I would agree but this is Monterey where they feature the best of the best multi million dollars cars and the majority are Ferraris This isn't the typical muscle car auction they normally televise.
I've been to Mecum Monterey and they have acres and acres of cars. Trust me, they'll give the 575 the skip on TV. I will admit I am very surprised to see them offering the black Maserati MC12. That *will* make TV. Goodness knows how they convinced the consignor to let the car go across at Mecum. RM or Gooding would have made so much more sense.
Yes, car was just sold by CNC at mecum for $385k. It looked like reserve was at 375. Bidding was fast. They had a couple other cars there too, not sure if many of them sold. Other than this 575, the money in general was not there at Mecum and many cars did not sell. I went to Gooding right after and I think maybe only one car didn't sell, a DB6 at 1 mill and reserve was a bid away....
Six days ago I wrote this on another FChat thread: If this car sells in that price range the top is off Maranellos, 550s and 575s.
I didn't see this Brian from May, that sucks! Glad Dan didn't have anything to do with it, you would have made a better owner than the twit seller. You would have still owned it today, not flipping it to dealers ending up at auction 3 months later.
It certainly did suck.... Yes, it would not have been at the auction...or any auction for that matter but in my garage and shared with others to drive and enjoy. Owner that sold (twit promised it was for his private collection.... I just hope the new owner that just bought it drives and enjoys it with friends. Brian
