Thanks everyone for the suggestions
straight pipe sounds absolute beast. high pitch shrieking howl at full throttle. if you're flooring it next to a wall, your ears will ring for awhile. and it actually hurts when you're listening to it at FOT next to a wall, but it's worth it lol. it's pretty obnoxious though in both sound & fume. I got 200cell now. I drive it lot more b/c it's quiet when I want it to be quiet. but it's not as much of an occasion as the straight pipe. If I had another v12 Ferrari, I probably straight pipe it. in fact, when I buy 812, I probably straight pipe the F12. it probably won't get driven much, but I definitely will look forward to driving it every day.
200-cell cats are typically OBDII compliant and don't cause CEL's - this is true for applications on most manufacturers, not just Ferrari. 100-cell cats aren't, however, and will cause a CEL. Beware, the efficiency of the cats will degrade over time so you may end up with a CEL a few years down the line!
while this will make the exhaust loud i believe he was asking about increasing the "V12 engine harmonics" inside the cabin which can only be done by removing the sound dampening between the engine and the dash. maybe you could remove the carpeting see what that does. what i do is just keep the engine above 5000rpm if you're city driving that means a lot of time in 2nd gear.
Can we just stop for a second and deal with the fact, that the main difference that the TdF sounds different is because of 1) different cam timing, and two, higher compression. Most of that noise is induction noise. Stay away from sport cats if you want to avoid it being very loud. An x-pipe and a controller will get you a bit more of that high pitched sound, especially with a rear box. I personally think the Novi system sounds better. More raw and less refined. I'd actually call it more real than the Capristo. Sent from my SM-G930F using FerrariChat.com mobile app
I've heard the inconel Novi systems many times along with the stainless. Zero difference. Titanium makes a difference, but never heard inconel do it. Inconel is just a different type of stainless steel, but a stainless steel at the end of the day. I've even had a conversation with Novi about this - and they agreed. No difference in sound. do you know if the carbon intake box will increase the induction noise or possibly make it higher pitched?
No, but seriously doubt it. It's the intake manifold runner size, the valve event timing, and compression that is the reason. Changing the airbox won't change anything. If you install a BMC filter, you might get a bit more sound. Sent from my SM-G930F using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Well, it was tough to find one but I got lucky! Yes, they were used set in great condition. PM sent Solid State.
anything you can do to make your f12 sound like a tdf is worth it. although i find the intake sound of the tdf to be most special.. not sure what is different in the airbox but it is exhilarating:
I think asking how to better the exhaust sound of an F12 is a bit of a far cry from trying to dress it up as a TDF.
Point is, there're more factors that differentiate Tdf sound from F12 than just exhaust. Mechanical lifters for example...
I think most people are seriously splitting hairs on this one. I watched that USA Italian Alps clip and don't feel like I'm missing anything on my straight piped F12.
just wanted to chime in here. this video is glorious but it is also filmed from inside the cabin what you are hearing is mostly engine noise which sounds just like my F12. you have to keep the revs above 4000. i'm not against changing out the exhaust for a more throaty sound from outside the cabin as well but the noise from this video is 90% engine which the exhaust won't affect. my F12 already sounds like this but only when i push it hard.
