hi all we are in the process of buying a new home which will have 4 garage spaces. and i'm waiting for this before buying my first ferrari (actually, i can't wait because i do not have enough space in our 2 spot garage. the only problem i do see with the house we are looking at is that the driveway is pretty steep at its beginning... not that steep but you know, not flat either. no bump nothing, just a steep incline. now the current owner has a regular recent 911 and there are no signs of paint loss under the front of his car. i will buy either a 430, a scuderia or a 599. which one of these cars has the best ground clearance and which one is the worst ? i remember that the 575 was very close to the ground. thanks alex
I would advise against choosing your model of Ferrari based on whether or not it will get up your drive without grounding. If you can approach the drive at an angle and get one wheel up after another you can probably make the transition without problem. If not I'd recommend changing your drive after you pick your car. Best of luck.
I can't speak to the 599, but the 430 and Scud will have essentially the same ground clearance. Do you have room to approach/leave your driveway at an angle? Unless the angle between the road and your driveway apron (the part that touches the road) is extreme you should be able to slowly get in and out. Alternatively, some 458's have a front-end lift option and if you're not married to Ferrari, Lamborghini Gallardos have front-end lifts as well.
The 430 has good clearance if you take it at an angle. I would just install some skid plates and not worry. BTW, all the cars you mentioned are entirely different drivers so choose your car first.
Have you thought about the curb helper? There was a similar post here a while back where someone used them to reduce the angle at the transition from the street to his driveway. Alan Here's the post: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/360-430/421338-big-problem-help.html
Yes the driveway is large enough so you can approach it with some angle from the road. We have decided that we will make an offer on that house but if there's big problem with my ferrari, i will build another garage at the same level of the street... Cheers Alex
pictures with a ruler may help us gauge more accurately if car will scrape. I bought a house last year with a pretty steep driveway. Was worried about clearance too but being careful helps. The nose does scrape when I am careless but that horrible sound serves as a negative reinforcement to be more careful the next time.
Thank you for posting this!! I'm going to have my CS corner weighted and aligned soon. I was going to have it raised back to stock height as the previous owner had it lowered. If my HOA will allow the Bridjit system, that would be fantastic.
