I've always said that the best place to get anything restored or made is NZ ... but heck we all know my view on what happens to the original donor when we make these replicas.

Lovely work, but it sadden's me that these cars are still being made.

I don't disagree with you Pete, which may seem a strange thing for me to say in that I have done the cutting on the donor. This particular car was a scrap yard find which no one would ever have restored for all of the old reasons of market value when finished. My guess is that the situation will sort its self out over time, in that the donors will continue to climb in value to a point where it is too costly to scrap a good donor.
I do however have other cars of a genuine nature .
    1 alloy gullwing
    4 Abarths...........a 2 litre Simca for sale
1 heavily modified Alfa of my own, it was for sale for 2 years as a restoration project but no-one came forward.

Wish I had the money for the 2 litre Simca :). Does it still have the genuine engine?, and if so could you post a photo please.

Nice work! Sad about the donor car but thats just the way it is. I think you are right about the market correcting itself at some point.
What would be the estimated price for a SWB body (no engine etc, just correct in every detail - except of course it has never been to Maranello)?
Any pictures of the SWB replica?

Alan, what is the car in the picture (not the 250 GTOs at the top but the one car that looks like a Lancia?).

    Thanks!

    Alan,

I was wondering if you would share chassis numbers ... we could then update databases, etc.

    Hello Jack

I am surprised that there is such a thing as a replica section on this blog.I was asked and I shall reply, what is the price for a SWB aluminium skin $ 102,000 NZD.
I want to either muddy the water or become informed,is there a spectrum which covers replica or not.
Part of the question you may have read back some way on the thread asks about the price for the SWB skin and alludes to replicas which did not come into the world via Maranello. I guess this refers to Datsun 260 fibre glass bodied cars, what about the cars such as the ones I have in my workshop which are made from 100% genuine parts and did start life in Maranello.
I have known for some time that some people become very upset when this subject is raised but I have never been involved in the debate. What usually happens is an owner turns up with a rough donor which is uneconomic to restore and has it made into another model. So long as they want the car to be as close to the original they want copied and pay the bill I do the work.
I have lost count of the number of bodies we have made in alloy and steel, I certainly dont limit myself to Ferrari as can been seen on my site www.car-restoration.com.
On a final note for today let me draw your attention to the fact that you can double your spending power by having work done in New Zealand, who knows GTEs may even be viable.
    Cheers.............Alan

    Alan,

I am one of them, but I have learnt that becoming emotional about this subject is pointless.

I'll go find another thread so you can get fully involved in this debate (this one is probably the best: The official replica/re-creation thread). Again I respect your workmanship (had a look at your site today and very impressed by the Simca Abarth) and I respect replicas but I respect the ones that use common production components more than ones that depleat the species. As you have shown you have the skill to restore the original car, but the owner is confused in thinking that driving a car that looks and smells like a GTO will make him/her part of that exlusive club ... it won't. The end result is no longer a Ferrari, that is gone ... now just an assembly of parts from an old irreplaceable Ferrari. You cannot recreate history. If you could Ferrari would be pumping out '62 GTOs and making the $'s not shops like yours :).

    Best
    Pete

Doubt the owners of these replicas for one minute think they are joining an exclusive club or recreating history. I'm sure they are just car guys enjoying lifes successes before they bite the dust forever. I'm happy for them to do what they want with cars they own even it if it means chopping them up. I personally would have no qualms chopping up a 330GT (they are just butt ugly - flame suit on!:) )

I'd like to chop up a Daytona and turn it into a Group4 racer.
What happened to those 250PF in Sydney that were being chopped up?
IMO its the owners car,if they want to chop it up go ahead.
I reckon any of those early 4 seater cars could do with the axe.

na idea was going to be a couple of TR250,and race them in Australian historics where they are most welcome.Bit like those (about 4 of them) Dino V6 Formula one front engine cars.
That 250LM replicar is also about to start racing in historics, its been given a full historic log book.
