To all Canadian f-chatters. Wishing you a Happy Boxing Day (Dec. 26th) With that said just what does Boxing Day represent in Canada. I use any excuse I can to declare a holiday and not be at the office. Does this qualify?
Dave, i'm gonna call my boss right now and see if i can get outta here...! Happy Boxing Day, Canada...! (i have no clue what it's about, either...)
DES, If you would declare it a holiday that would be good enough for me. I gave my secretary the day off as most do. Now here I sit making sure all is well in the insurance world. Come on DES do it, declare it. The U.S. is waiting. A man with almost 10k posts who wouldn't listen. All in fun DES have a great day! Dave
It comes from our Brit background Boxing day was traditionally the day the "Household Help" got off after making sure the lord and lady had a good christmas. It is a working man's holiday and now the excuse to go to the mall
writerguy, Thanks for the explanation. I notice you said it was a working mans holiday. Sounds like I qualify (though some may argue about the working man part) so off I go to the shooting range to break a few clay targets.
Jim, thanks for the explanation... Definitely sounds like a holiday i can participate in... LOL, Dave... i, DES, official post whore of FerrariChat declare today, December 26th, 2003 and every December 26th hereafter, an official take-off-from-work holiday. May this decree be written in stone and its implications revoked by none. i have spoken... ...pay no attention to the man behind the curtain. Hey, Dave, what kind of insurance do you do out there in California...? Health insurance...? Life...?
DES, Man that really sounded offical you have real power. I knew I could count on you. I sell property and casualty. ie: auto, home and alot of commercial. I do some life insurance but refer out health to a guy I sub lease to. I specialize in apartments have pretty good markets for that. How about you? What do you do, I mean besides posting. TimN88, Kwanzaa? Is that an African holiday I should be taking advantage of too?
Okay ..Almost every stores have big specials and thats good but went I spent 20 min to find a place to park and then everyone is pushing you went you shop... No thank you I'd rather stay home.
Here's how I spent my Boxing Day.... Vintage Car Club of Canada - Vancouver Chapter - Boxing Day Drive
Guys, I wanted to see what all this "boxing day" shopping thing is all about this year, so I drove up to visit my girlfriend in Vancouver, BC late Christmas night. We went to the Metrotown Mall in Burnaby, this is the largest (I think) regional mall in BC. It was utter mayhem! From six blocks away, the traffic is crawling. Once in the underground parking garage, it took another 20 minutes to wait/find a parking spot. Once in the mall, you are literally elbow to elbow with other shoppers. All the popular stores had security personel to control the number of people allowed in to prevent over crowding...so long lines outside the stores. Funny, but while they were concerned with "safety" inside each store, no one seemed to care about the congestion out in the mall itself. The fire inspectors should have made them control the numbers in the mall! Anyway, I bought nothing, and left after about an hour and a half of milling about. It was mildly amusing watching the frenzy though. Wish I had linked up with Peter Rychel and DJ (spasso) seems they had WAY more fun.
