I understand where you are coming from, but I have the opposite opinion in that I'm coming from a different point of view.

I think by the 1990's Ferrari had fallen so far BEHIND everyone else, they had to change. The NSX was a huge kick in the head to Ferrari. Here was a true exotic that could really be a daily driver. It didn't break and had Ferrari or better numbers. Even the Corvettes could smoke a Ferrari. These cars and others were the next generation, while Ferrari was still struggling in the past with the 308/328 cars.

The 348 was the first Ferrari to take a modern step, but IMHO the 355 was really the first new generation Ferrari that had comperable performence and reliability to the other exotics in the same catagory. They still had the stupid camshaft belts, but Ferrari finally started waking up.

The 360 and now 430 can truly compete with what's out there, so I think Ferrari really has regained some of the "magic" at least from a competative point of view.

Right now I'm stocked about Ferrari. If I don't get a 430 quickly, they will have lost their magic.
The new cars are new and different and in my opinion take some getting used to. After a while I like them except for the 612 which is not a beauty.

I think Ferrari has lost a lot of magic. Between wind tunnel limitations and Asian influence, they by and large are not distinctive nor exotic looking. The exception, of course is the Enzo, which is distinctive, but looks like it was designed by a committee.

Lambo has an edge in the styling arena
