    Hello,

I own a 1984 Ferrari 512 BBi currently stored at a dealership in Switzerland for some TLC while I’m away for part of the year. The dealership has dropped the engine and transmission for repairs and sent me photos of the clutch, saying it’s damaged and requires a new clutch kit.

The last clutch repair/replacement was done in 2015, and the car has only covered 20,000 km since 1984! Unfortunately, I can’t assess the clutch condition accurately just from the photos they provided.

    I have two questions:
    1. Is it possible to judge the condition of the clutch from photos alone? Can anyone confirm? (photos attached)

    2. The dealer quoted CHF 4700+ (around $4200 USD) for the clutch kit (part number: 109460/c), but I’m looking to source the part myself at a more reasonable price. I’ve found several options online, and I’m unsure which one is correct for my car:
    • 109460i – Listed for the 512 BBi by AW Italian (link)
    • 109460 – Also listed for the 512 BBi by AW Italian (link)
    • 109460 – Found on another site, but it states this part is only for the 288 GTO (link)
    • 109460/c – Found here (link)
Could anyone confirm which of these part numbers is the correct one for a 1984 512 BBi? I’d prefer to avoid the dealership markup if possible.
Thanks in advance for your help!

  2. Fwiw, a clutch rebuilder can reline the disc & resurface the pressure plate for around $200. As far as the photos, yes you need a new clutch. The rivets will be digging into the flywheel soon.

Can't really confirm anything, but, based on your location, I'd go with 109460/C (or 109460/A) from Maranello Classic Parts (MCP). They are also the official classic F part supplier so easier to get things right if there is a problem. My comments:
    • 109460i – Listed for the 512 BBi by AW Italian (link) -- Since this shows a stamped steel pressure plate (and MCP doesn't show this option) my guess would be this is actually unavailable).
    • 109460 – Also listed for the 512 BBi by AW Italian (link) -- AW Italian is a reputable F part supplier, but being in the US you'll have more Customs cost and shipping hassle, and this looks identical (the machined pressure plate) to the 109460/A from MCP.
    • 109460 – Found on another site, but it states this part is only for the 288 GTO (link) -- More of just a pass thru US F part reseller. Not my first choice. Note the "TO ORDER" status = you order from them, and then they order it from someone else.
    • 109460/c – Found here (link) -- MCP would be my choice. Although they also show 109460/A as an option so you need to talk to them to determine the difference between /A and /C.
All JMO judging from the websites.

    Agree mostly.

The 109460i is shown as an Italian reproduction.Since the OE are British made I tend to believe them. They have good Italian sources.

In his part of the world I agree. Cut out the middle men and get it at MCP. Every other source is buying from them anyway.
