Hi all - I am a long time member and lurker, but a rare poster. Always feels like I might be gatecrashing a private party here in the Oz section. Anyway, for nearly a year I have had an intermittent problem with the F1 gearbox selector on my '06 612. Sometimes it won't select reverse and gets stuck in neutral (with helpful warning message "Transmission failure - drive slowly to dealer"). Sometimes also it won't select 1st either. If I keep turning ignition on and off it eventually works, and it drives perfectly. I have had it into Zagame several times - first couple they made some adjustments, ok for a short time then problem back again. Most recently they said it was a faulty gear position sensor which they replaced, but then they said that sensor was faulty too (really?) and replaced it again. In the meantime they also found worn clutch so they replaced that too including thrust bearing, position sensor, seals etc. Megabucks, of course (and I hadn't noticed any clutch problem). Guess what, two weeks later and the problem is back. The only difference is now, when it does work and when it's cold, it takes ages to move from 1st to 2nd and the clutch slips like crazy.
I'm sick of Zagame - they can't fix the problem, they rarely communicate, and they have an attitude like the banks: bleed the customer. Maybe there's no translation of "customer service" into Italian.
So my plea is, can you recommend a competent F1 gearbox technician in Melbourne?

PS - just to save some time, I'm not going to replace the F1 with a manual. :D

I would go back to Zagame. get them to plug the computer in and check what the PIS setting on the clutch is first before doing anything else. They've probably set the incorrect value

Black Stallion Motors in Ringwood have all the diagnostic computers and software. Try them. They've done a fair bit of F1 work.

    Solenoid? :)

Boy, reading that brought back some very recent nightmares.
Sounds like you’re going through a similar process to what I did.
    Good luck!

The gearchanging issue was indeed solved by the new solenoids. Have done well over 500km now and the gear changes are perfect.
I still have the ridiculous beeping problem, but we are working our way through that as I speak.
Regardless, I’m taking the bloody thing to Tassie next week!

Great news Steve....At least you are driving it.....Haven't driven the 360 or 308 since they came out of their majors a couple of months ago....Been too busy...Now I'm buying valve guides and valves etc etc etc etc etc for the 355... I figure it's a keeper so when the engine comes out I'm going to to a full rebuild so it's "proper "sorted....Might have to start selling off the kids.....:)

Nice one Gary. Feel free to send the 308 over here if you want it to be driven. :D
You won’t regret getting the 355 properly sorted, that’s for sure. Such a great car when working properly!
I’ve got a lot of catching up to do - I reckon even Pap has driven his car more than I have in the last 18 months.
Mine just ticked over 30,000 miles a couple of days ago so it’s worthless now. I might as well drive it.

Update - after I calmed down a bit, l had a long chat with the Zagame service manager and he persuaded me that they had spent many hours trying to solve the problem but struggled to reproduce it in the workshop. I took the car back in to get the clutch settings checked, and when they downloaded the history it showed a fault “previous gear not disengaged”. They are not sure what might cause this fault message so they are sending all the data off to Italy in the hope that someone, somewhere, has seen and solved the same problem. Fingers crossed.
PS - Steve, they had previously checked solenoids and no problems identified.

Ross, have you spoken with Mark Coffey from Maranello Motorsport about this issue? They may have seen it before on 360/430 CH cars.

Serge, I haven’t yet but thanks for the tip. Feedback from Zagame Service Manager today was that Ferrari in Italy have escalated the query (whatever that means, but it sounds like they are taking it seriously).
