That's what I was thinking......consider how you ended up in this position in the first place.

I’m just going to say two things.

    1. That process - sending the info to Italy then weeks later the query “being escalated” - is EXACTLY what I went through.

    2. It might be time to call one of the other independent experts people have recommended.

Oh, and a third thing: good luck! :)

Update: the good news is that the communication from Zagame has been much improved. Regular updates from the service manager and apparently much testing and dialogue with Italy. They have finally (I hope!) diagnosed a dicky F1 pump, generating marginal pressure particularly when cold. It sounds plausible and I’m not smart enough to argue. Of course the replacement has to come from Italy, and hopefully I will have the car back in about 3 weeks.
I plan to put it on the market once I am confident it is 100% mechanically.
Thanks all for your interest and advice. If it doesn’t work this time I’ll definitely follow up your recommended technicians.

Ok. What does the pump cost?

A new accumulator is re US$420 from Ricambi (I just bought one) and should be viewed as a consumable part - replaced every ten years or so regardless.

Quote for the pump was around $3500 fitted. I guess if the accumulator isn’t functioning properly the pump will have to work harder and maybe wear out - is that right? Thanks for the advice - I will call them tomorrow.

Jeepers. Seems pretty steep to me. The accumulator is more likely to wear out than the pump, but you should be able to buy and replace both for less than $3500 on a 612.

If what you’re referring to is actually the whole power unit that’s not a bad price, but have a look at the accumulator and / or pump too.

And the accumulator for a 612 is a bit over US$1k for the part.

Sorry I thought it was the same as a 355/360 one.

Time for my regular biannual post. A reminder of the original problem - F1 gearbox on my 612 would sometimes not select reverse or 1st gear. Many visits to Zagame and just about every component in the hydraulic system was replaced - pump, accumulator, sensors, plus clutch, but problem remained. With time during the lockdown, I tried to do my own troubleshooting, courtesy of a WSM from brogenville. I convinced myself it was solenoid EV5 and had it replaced. Guess what - no change (so much for my mechanical talent!).
The guy at Zagame, Paul, convinced me that there must be an internal mechanical issue so I agreed to have it stripped down. Would you believe it, he was right. See pics below. It took a while to get replacement parts - bushes, syncro bits and a bearing, but now it’s done and I collected it this week.
I have owned the car for 10 years and it feels better than I can remember, so maybe it was already partially damaged when I bought it, who knows? Anyway, finally I’m a happy Fcar owner, for the time being at least.....
I still lurk on here a lot and particularly enjoy (mostly) the Aussie section. I might even post again one day if I can think of anything interesting to contribute.
    Cheers all.

That's a good fix Ross, how long was the car off the road for when the transmission was pulled apart?

It was off the road for about a month. It is on Carsales - my wife persuaded me it was time to sell and move on, but I’m wavering.... Maybe should put the price up to scare off any interest...

Can only imagine they’d be hard to sell, more so than the 2 seater V12s
