Hi, I am restoring a ‘75 Dino. Clutch pedal is heavier than I like and on this forum I found the 1981 Ferrari factory service procedure that is supposed to lighten the effort. I’d like to try it. Has anyone recently performed this upgrade? Specifically, where can I get the parts? Any help appreciated! Thanks Larry
I have all the Tech bulletins thru '81, but it's a huge pile. Maybe someone can search it digitally.... You've done the obvious like lubricate pivots point and inspect/lube the cable
Oh I have the bulletin, thank you, which has the parts list and instructions. I'm just curious where the parts came from and anything else I should know before starting. Yeah, I freed everything up and replaced the cable. Clutch is workable, but if I can improve it, I will.
Have you tried adjusting the goofy over center spring clutch mechanism. The manual has a very detailed write up on it. I believe you can also adjust the over center spring tension. Adjusting the over center angle per the manual reduced the clutch effort on my 78 somewhat. The bulletin Mike so kindly put up looks pretty involved if you really do have to change the clutch sleeve. Assuming you can get the parts. The whole thing probably just increases the leverage by increasing the clutch petal travel for the same clutch movement.. Something else I did was adjust the clutch linkage so there is less free play at the top. On mine at least there is plenty of throw. This doesn't decrease the stiffness but means you don't have to depress it as far for full release and on mine made the shifting much smoother..
I do not believe the parts are still available, or have been for years for that matter. I could be wrong. The biggest enemy to clutch effort in the V8 cars is so many over the years have installed V12 clutches in them in a misguided attempt at a better clutch life or better clutch or similar stupidity. Make sure you have a V8 clutch.
This ^ Even using one 4-5X a year at car club track events, if you know the right way to operate a clutch, the (correct V8) clutch will easily last 100,000 miles. Guess how I know
I'm 69 years old. The clutch on my 308 is acceptably and expectably stiff for that car era. I've never thought about it. Image Unavailable, Please Login
