Here's todays story. About 9AM, some contractor dropped off some tools and materials at the bottom floor of our parking deck here at work. One of the materials was an aluminum beam for some project in the works up on the roof. About an hour later, the contractor comes back after his errands to start with the project. The aluminum beam was gone. On a hunch, he drives a few blocks over to the scrap metal yard and talks with the foreman. He finds his aluminum beam already chopped up where it had been sold to the scrap yard for a few bucks by some homeless bum or crack head who stole it. High gas prices, wars, inflation, unemployment and a host of problems affect us in general, but it seems over and over and over again, the problem of nit picking street criminals is ALWAYS present in EVERYBODY's life EVERY day. You can't leave anything unattended anywhere these days or some low life will try to walk off with it. I've lost track of the number of times somebody has "messed" with my stuff. Forget about world politics. Let's start addressing the problem that affects everybody: LOW LIFE THIEVES!!!

Removeth his hands from his wrists and a dishonest man goes in want for hands not with which to steal; but with hands in which to wipe.

Nah, it's more important to address another country's issues first. That's something we can try to control. And if we can't, we'll just leave it. With issues at home, they will always be present, and if we cannot fix it, they'll still be there to address. So it is better to not address them at all.

If you address the problem by not addressing it, you will find that you have still addressed it.

Inaction from the outstanding leads to action of the criminal.

A "homeless bum" picked up an aluminum beam, slung it over his shoulder, walked a couple of blocks to a scrap yard, sold it for cash, and the beam was chopped up....in an hour? And he didn't steal the tools? Why don't I believe this?

The scrapyard operator/employee stole the beam, if anyone did.

I generally assume that someone will jack my sh*t if I'm not looking, therefore I keep it all locked up. Leaving an aluminum beam in plain sight a few blocks from a scrap yard is, shall we say, asking for it.

we get copper stolen from our jobsites all the time. they do $100 worth of damage to steal a $5 piece of pipe. It would be cheaper to just tape $1 bills in the spot. They then go sell the pipe at scrap yard just as said. A way that stops it is to spray paint your exposed pipes with flourescent paint. The shops won't buy it if it is identifyable.

They can scrape paint off, you should drill a bunch of holes in it.
