On every other car I’ve tracked, I’ve put the car in gear or in “park” after a hot laps session, but not used the e-brake, as it may fuse to the hot rotor or leave a big deposit of pad material.

But on a 458, turning off the ignition automatically applies the e-brake. If I put it into car wash mode, the e-brake is not applied, but it doesn’t go into “park” as well, so the car rolls away. What to do? Is there a way to put it in “park” without applying the e-brake?

I believe that the Park Brake is a shoe/drum inside of the rear disk's bell, and separate from the Driving Brake running on the rotors. so it shouldn't be much of an issue, if at all.

From what you described, why not put it in car wash mode and put a block (chock) on a wheel or two?

I believe this problem is usually heat related. Since the car has CCM brakes, heat should not be an issue.

Ya, I thought that too, but ended up cooking two very expensive springs in the rear hubs. Buy some wheel chocks.

Slow inlap should cool brakes a fair chunk, enough I'd imagine?

I agree - wheel chocks. There is a system on the 458 I recall? That stops the E brake being applied. Then leave in neutrel and wheel chocks on. Worked for me.

This....There is a reason that it is called a cool down lap. It is an opportunity for the driver to manage and monitor the cars temps and pressures. It is not another race lap. Take care of the car and it will take care of you!

I use the follow steps to avoid using the e-brake after coming off the track.

    Foot on brake.
    Put car in neutral.
Crack/Open driver door (I do this so I can lean my torso to the left with my helmet on to see the button in the next step).
Press upper portion of brake button labeled “Auto Park”
The words “Parks Off” appear in the left TFT.
    Turn key off.
    Wait three seconds.
    Remove key.
    Release brake pedal.
    Done.

Car is now off, transmission is keeping vehicle from rolling, and no brake pads are engaged.

I had to laugh a little with what technology makes us go through nowadays. Gone are the days of leaving car in gear and that's it!

Of course, simple wheel chocks will work also...
