Guys I’m wondering how long it will take me to replace a CV boot that is ripped on my 348. I’ve never done it before and it usually seems to take me 3 times as long for a job then what others report ( probably because I get distracted ). Anyway for a novice wrench turner 4 hours, 6 hours?

And I’ll be replacing a wheel bearing on the opposites side (rear hub). Any time idea there?

    Thanks for any input.

I don't know the official rate but the axle has to come out. I can do it in 2 hours but you might need 4.

I’d plan for 4, that’s about what it took me the first time (I’m purposely slow the first time around as well, but does include coffee breaks ) That just one side btw

When I work on my cars, the focus is doing the job properly and enjoying the experience. I don't rush. It's no race.

The nut on the axle nut seems to give the most trouble.

Just have an impact that actually has some ass behind it.

First time will always take time.
Doing the second side will be faster.

But honestly I didn't time myself.

Wheel hub shouldnt be much longer than the axle.

Bust off that axle nut first while its all assembled, break torque on everything else you can while its all together.

Unfortunately I didn’t buy the kit. Just ordered clamps when I realized it.

Does Ferrari spec a certain grease for The axles?

The impact wrench was the big item for me. I didn't gave one and wrestled with the nut until i finally got fed up and went out and bought the HF one. Easy after that.

First side took about 5 hours including a few beer breaks but not including my drive time to HF. Second side, now that I knew what I was doing and had the tools, took about 1.5 hours.

Cool. Thanks. Yeah I just ordered the tool. Still would like to know if I’m good with most any synthetic CV grease

CV joint grease is quite special, has a lot of Moly and Graphite. Get a grease labeled for CV joints and of a well known brand like Penrite CV Joint Grease, Lubro-Moly LM 47 CV Joint Grease etc.

Depending on rear hub, theres also 2 types of driveshafts on 348. I reckon the early type takes a bit longer to remove, i rebuilt mine with bmw cv joints Image Unavailable, Please Login

As other said, grease comes with kits. When I get to my shop, I'll look it up as we supplied a kit not long ago to a member here.

You need a big ass torque wrench to get that axle nut back on at the right torque... or a bathroom scale.

Thanks, and thanks for the video in the post further up. I’ve got to look at your website. Didn’t know you offered the kits or definitely would have ordered through you.

Looks like I’ve got to find a big torque wrench now.

    I used Reline CV-2 https://www.redlineoil.com/cv-2-grease

Lots of good advice here so far.
You will need a good impact wrench to take the axle nuts off.
You will need a 300 pound torque wrench to put them back on properly.
From recall I think the torque spec was 250 ft/lbs. But others will correct me if I am off on that.

I spent a full Saturday and part of a Sunday doing this, but it was January and I was in no hurry as the temp outside was below zero and we had 3 feet of snow out there :)
