How many will want one?

  1. Yes, definitely!

  2. Not now, but maybe later.

  3. No, I like the cluttered look ;).

Andrew - I may be interested in one of these if the carriage isn't too excessive. Please feel free to PM me if it's worthwhile combining our orders somehow.

Good idea! We can probably ship 3-4 of them to Andrew for about $40 total shipping... maybe a bit less.

The 1995 355 does not have resonator to 'delete'. The 1995 intake system is fairly well designed as is :).

Damn, I just ordered mine from Daniel and it's on it's way, perhaps the answer for the UK is to have Hill become a stockist :)

Awesome video Andrew :D!!!!! Your 355 looks/sounds great!!! ............. this resonator delete cap does nothing but good things and should be mandatory for all motronic 5.2 355's .............. ............................. Thank you for getting some shipped across the pond and making them available to other UK owners ........ :)!!!!

As for the new 'scud' style mods for the 355 .............. they will be fully realized around spring time ............. :D!!

i will all dissapoint you but the one who deletes the Resonator he is shooting up to 5 Bhp from his engine.
this little Box is Stupid and Ugly but ist doing a very importand work on the airintake. it protects the Maf from the hot Gases after the engine is shut down and helps the engine to work correct when the air is more than the engine needs.
you can ask also a good Ferrari mechaniker to explain to you whats the Function of that little box!!!!!

....................... sounds like something written by 'chicken little' ...........

To humor the unfounded concern(s) .... if it were to soak-up 'heat' as he said and keep it from the MAF...... the small 1" 'muffler' port would be located on top of the runner, as we all know .... heat rises.

2nd reason why it will not soak heat away from MAF ....... the box is located in the engine compartment and is 'uninsulated' and completely exposed to engine compartment heat, seeing as how it is a closed box, it can actually trap heat, because it does not see any air circulation. The MAF on the other hand sees a continuous flow of air through it ........ which begs ...... how could this little box 'cool' or protect the MAF from heat if it has no 'air flow' through it ..... to keep even itself cool? ......

Being a normally aspirated motor ...... it will not take more air than it 'needs' ............. the throttle bodies control the air to the motor, not this intake 'muffler' .........

The Ferrari factory clearly identifies this little box as a 'muffler'.

As a 'muffler' located on the intake, its purpose is to dampen intake noise.

    Gentlemen,

I am no expert in air flow, resonance or aerodynamics, but I am only puzzled why would Ferrari engineers design such a box that has no technical merit ?

My basic undertanding is when air flow gets turbulant you will get a booming sound or resonance. In sound applications, a resonant frequency is a natural frequency of vibration.

If we all agree that this box is a "muffler" that eliminated the booming sound/resonance, this means it is eliminating air turbulance...hence better air flow stream and less turbulance/noise. ie: the MAF will get a more accurate reading from a smooth air flow than a turbulent one.

I fully agree with everyones air tightness, and nicer look.....but concerned about the negative effect of the booming sound on the MAF unit.

    Anyone ?

Any comments on the above posts guys? Goth?

I have one of these caps waiting to be installed (car is away for the winter still at the moment). I'd originally thought that the cap sounds like a good idea (far better sealing etc than the plastic box and less potential for air metering issues) but having thought about the post by Candream above, I'm wondering whether he has a point concerning resonant frequencies and hence turbulence!?

The box DOES have 'technical merit' ..... it dampens noise ;). Intake valves opening/closing bounce the air and air going through imperfect paths (past throttle butterflys, valve stems/guides at varied RPMs) cause a variety of intake noises/pulses. Most of those air pulses are diffused and minimized in the large volume 355 intake plenum on each bank. Noise/sound on the other hand can and does travel best through homogeneous air of a constant pressure. Which is why we can speak and listen to each other best in a closed room. Turbulent air, is not the best medium for optimal sound transmission.

That said, the MAF under any circumstances does not measure or meter any noise, sounds, booms, resonances or vibrations. If it did the MAF would be unable to function on any engine. The MAF measures air mass thermally, by means of a hot wire that is cooled when air travels over it. The hot wire changes its electrical resistance when its temperature changes. Intake air disturbances/pulses (which happen through out the rev range on any MAF equiped car) were certainly taken into account and is one of the reasons this type of metering device is used. :)

Here are some pics of the GruppeM intake with the resonator deleted as well as the fabspeed hose kit with resonator deleted. I made the precision alloy billet version because I wanted to be certain of its capacity to seal without getting deformed under any pressure exerted on it by the factory v-clamp.
