The manual states that the 328 holds about 7-8 gallons of coolant yet when I looked at my past dealer invoices for coolant changes, it only listed one $15 Agip antifreeze. Are they using a 50/50 mixture or a lot less?

Also, if I don't buy AGip brand, what anti freeze is good for the 328?

    Thanks,
    Tad

You might be mis-reading the OM -- the total capacity is given as 22L of which 11L is anti-freeze (so 50/50 is the spec -- although I'd give them low marks for being clear about it ;)). Additionally, they can never get it all out so $15 for a couple of gallons seems OKish. Maybe the Shop was using the "1 328's worth" type of quantity rather than a true description of the volume.

Your mix can vary with the climate. You may need a higher mix in the Yukon than in Baja.

A former dealer mechanic told me that any "green or red" antifreeze was okay (it's a consumable), but to avoid the euro "yellow" antifreeze, as it doesn't go well with aluminum. I don't know how accurate that is, but I've been using plain Prestone, and changing it at the recommended intervals.

Just be careful to keep the neighborhood cats away when changing the green stuff -- they seem to be attracted by it, and it's no good for them.
