I bought myself a gantry. Worked awesome. With engine load leveler the job was straight forward and easy. Just make sure you have a second person to spot you. Yes I’m changing the front coolant hose and crank sensor.

@ang308 This may or may not come in handy for me someday, but I'm glad it's there. Great write up.

I’ll let you know that thinking about putting that huge lump of an engine into that small narrow little space was intimidating but it was much easier than I ever thought. And to top it off I didn’t have anyone around to help me and I did it by myself.

hardest thing to do was mate transmission and engine. That took me the longest and I think was the hardest part

And another tip I learned from this experience you put engine all the way in and there is some room between bulkhead and engine please bolt up the accelerator cable to most left driver side cam cover. I didn’t do that and it was next to impossible to bolt up the accelerator cable bracket.

SE30? Was the clutch mod worth it?

It has been determined that the Sachs clutch “push” system of the SE30 will begin to damage the bottom part of the engine block after about 18,000 km do to the pressure exerted. Fortunately, st the time, my SE30 was at 11,000 km and the crank movement tolerance was still within the parameters. There was a Jota at the shop at the same time and the Sachs clutch had damaged the block snd they were trying to figure out how to save the block (which is NLA).
For SE30 cars it is highly recommended to switch to the Valeo setup. No need to purchase the bell housing, the original bell housing can be machined. The Valeo setup requires less leg force as well.

Thanks. It looks like conversion might be part of my winter regimen. Now to find the parts…

The point is for all cars, do not press the clutch for a long time, if you are at a red light, put it into neutral and release the pedal - the same counts for the engine start. We had years ago an issue with a 5l countach, about 2mm axial movement!

I lack the thigh muscles to push it in for a long time!

I have made arrangements for the Valeo conversion over the winter. The only issue is what else we will find when the engine is out.

At some point my car was changed to the valeo system. I think they just changed the bellhousing. But with this system I heard and have read that the clutch rod breaks easily so I just ordered that Custer replacement rod.

also now I have a brand new pressure plate a used pressure plate and flywheel I am looking to unload if anyone is interested and a clutch plate missing a few pads
