    During a recent drive, while casually accelerating without downshifting, I noticed that the hvac airflow would change from the windshield defrost to the center vents. Letting off the gas returns the flapper doors back to defrost. So there's obviously a vacuum leak somewhere and searching for those is always a challenging good time.

    But in my case, source of the problem was an easy find... a rusty can. Or more specifically, the Vacuum reservoir (61642700 CANISTER).

    Ferrari wants a thousand bucks but I know these were quite common on various cars from the 50s through the 80s. Of various sizes of course.

    Has anyone sourced a workable alternative. I'm looking for something that's OEM but from other than the car's maker. ;)

    There's no saving this one; it's rusted internally as well (sounds like sand in a can).

    Also, the parts description calls it a "Vacuum reservoir with valve" but there's no valve on mine. Maybe the valve is inside? An autopsy is forthcoming...

    Here are the specs:

    Height = 7"

    Diameter = 4 3/8"

    Volumne = 101.65 cubic inches

    Mount bracket distance between holes (centered) = 8 13/16"

    Nipple sizes = 4.7 mm and 6.6 mm

    I don't need exact; well maybe the volume as close as possible.

    Yes, close. But even closer yet (and lightweight).

    From a Corvette, 1980-82:

    Plus the mount bracket is exactly the same (but unsure about the length).

    A no-go on the 1980-82 Corvette headlight vacuum accumulator. Just way too big.

    However, the distance between the holes on the mount bracket were exactly the same.

    Looks great if that doesn't work....

    This is proven capable of being pressure tested or making pressure. You must supply a check valve however....

    I may take you up on that. The original mounting location is on the bottom of the left intake scoop (plastic). I'm afraid that the weight, plus g-loads, will be too much.
