BMW 740iL I think the water pump or something is going out. sounds like a squealling pig under the hood, but don't think it is a belt. Trying to avoid Classic BMW for pricing reasons. Any suggestions?
I have been using Jim Lenington at Dallas Euro Cars for years...he works on both the 911 and the BMW 840i. His number is 972.243.4911. They are usually open on Saturdays and after hours.
ah fantastic! I am going to the place on Preston. He diagnosed the car over the phone. THink it is a pulley.
My 740iL had a squealing noise under the hood as well. It was just the oil seperator. DO NOT use Overseas Service Haus on Preston road in North Dallas. It is a long story but they damaged more than they fixed.
what? in that other thread you said you took it there and were happy and someone else was too. I took it there today. we'll see what happens. anything I should watch out for? I don't want "additional services" suggested from them.
I agree....DO NOT go there!! Louden Motorsports is a much better bet. Plus, they won't rape you on labor charges & their work is much cleaner.
It's your car, you don't need to give them a reason. Go get your car. This stuff all just happened with my car. $900 worth of damage and stranded 100 miles from Dallas because of their incompetancy. The owners solution was we will refund $100 but not admit fault for the butcher job on my car. I considered it an insult. Oh yea, they also tried to sell me a bunch of crap my car didn't need.
I would suggest Phil Morrow at Moritz BMW in Arlington. Phil has been around these cars for an awful long time and knows them inside and out. He will tell it to you honest and do what you want done. It may be a little more than an independent to get it done but you will have the dealership standing behind the work. Moritz has a very good reputation here. I worked for them for six years and watched people from out of state bringing their car to Phil after him doing work for them in the past. Not because it broke but because they believe in his work........Just a suggestion..
That's bad considering I recommended them. Haven't used them in 3 years, but they always did a great job and at a good price. Maybe the X dealer mechanic they had working there previously isn't there anymore. The Preston location just opened when I started using them in 1999 or so, times I guess have changed.
well I let them have a go at it since it was already there. lazy and busy on my part. $168 for 2 new belts. driving home and squeal starts again so I go back. then he says oh yeah I meant to tell you that the oil seperator was making the squealing. He got my car confused with another one in there and I left before he could tell me. So I say fine and leave it again, but am pissed about paying $168 for a belt I might not have needed. Also, the chech engine light is on now and it wasn't when I went in. He said oil seperator was making it come on. If that is case then why was it off before?
got it back this morning and it is fine. check engine light is fixed. A little frustrated to have to go back, but they knocked $50 off or so. car is fixed so that the best part.
