The photographed badge was removed from a Dino 246 GT in approximately 1990 and has been quietly existing in a box ever since.

I wonder if there are any opinions as to whether it's a genuine Ferrari part and what vintage it may be? (And yes, it does have a chip in the yellow to the left side of the cavallino.)

Not really. It was never factory installed on a 246.

Hence the reason it was taken off the car ... probably the very first thing done during restoration. It should never have been there. =)

Yeah I know and there is a lot of history there. Really interesting reading about it, and surely there’s more than the information to be found on internet.

That's certainly the correct "hard square" nose badge of the '70s, as I have them on my car.

There was an effort to reunite the Dino with the Ferrari brand due to slow sales, so you see a restless variation in response to a Tech Bulletin telling USA dealers to change the nose logo, and add the Cavallino to the tail deck.

That one picture above is a very well done revision, as most dealerships did NOT go to the effort to properly "French" them flush to the metal.
In fact some just screwed the Prancing Pony on, without removing the Dino one!!
