actually, not the gullwing you're thinking about - my once-in-a-lifetimer is the 300SLR gullwing coupe specially built for Mercedes design chief Rudolf Uhlenhaut. Hard to believe that it is 67 years old - two-thirds of a century

If it is one vehicle only it would be a Mercedes Maybach G wagon Laundaulet- but they never made it to the US unfortunately. The G wagon 4x4 squared would be my second choice if it ever becomes available in the new model with a lifted Jeep 396 as a third.
If it’s one sports car it would be an 812GTS (which I love even though it’s less perfect than the 812SF for various reasons- sound, rigidity and accommodates my 6’2” better but I love convertibles)

I want to make my perfect forever car for me which is a 328 exterior with a 308 interior and a 355 powertrain. That would do it for me.

If we get to have another cars for the real world, day-to-day vehicular demands, and one forever car for fun, then 812 GTS. 599 SA Aperta would be dream car, but you see very few with any miles on them, so it seems to make little sense to pay a premium for a garage queen and then drive the value out of it. So, 812 GTS as the modern, more reliable (I hope!) top-down V12 experience would fit the bill nicely...T

Late to party, but this post resonates with me.

550 Spyder (with period race history) to replace vintage air-cooled 911 race car. And/or F40 (street-registered GTE/LM) to replace manual-steering early 355 Challenge. Happy with what I have, but 550 and F40 are in top tier.

Difficult choice. Criteria would be feel, looks, sound, reliability and somehow "oldschool" before 2010. It would have to be a manual for sure, no electric steering and come with about 400 horses at least. A 308 Vetroresina for the looks and sound but not enough power for spirited alpine driving. A 997 GT2 RS for the raw power, but unfortunately not enough sound, hence maybe a 997 GT3 RS 4.0. A 550 for the looks and historical significance but very underpowered for spirited driving. Maybe a 3.0 Turbo with a G50. An Aston Martin DBS manual but then again to large and heavy. 288 GTO or F40 and say decision made.
