My ignition key on my 308 is the "old" style Neiman all metal key. Will the newer keys with plastic covered heads and horses on them fit my car? they look so much better

Yes, you can get the folding 328 key (I hate it) or get the super cool F40 key with the rounded black plastic head and imbedded metal horsy. I got mine from Sodacom's for around $40 or so.

I also got mine from Sodocom's - I think it was about $50. I took it to a local locksmith (rather than like a Home Depot). The guy also had the right key blank for the door, so I had one of them made - I like the new key much better than the folding 328 key. Anyone know what the purpose of the folding key is???

So the horsey can look out the window. :)

Seriously, I believe it's so the key will bend, rather than break, if your knee hits it.

No that would be too easy. :)

Honestly, the only alternate keys I have found to work is the 328 key and the F40 key. The all interchange with each other.

    Dave,

Thanks for the clarification. The guy at Algar told me that the key was for the 348/355 but I like the fact that it for an F40 even more! :)

    Happy New Year!

Yep, gotta like the sound of that....."oh this, it's a key for a Ferrari F40...well,... but it works on my 328..." :)

The key head is hinged so you don't snap it off in the ignition.

Dwarfs and light weights will not have a problem, but I have hit my knee on the key many times

For the 308 QV, I purchased the newer style black plastic with chrome cavallino keys for both the ignition and the fuel safe door/grill from Italian Car Parts (www.italiancarparts.com). Had them cut at the local locksmith. I use these keys regularly, and put the original ones in the safe.

Went to dealer today and was told that the F-50 key fits the 308's and they are about 30.00--unfortunatly they were doing inventory and could not sell me one

Maybe its just the tight ass in me,
but how can you guys pay 50 bucks for a key blank
because it has some black plastic and a horsey on it?

I bought the F40 key a year ago for my 308 and can't get any of the yahoo's around here to cut it. Seems they don't want to cut steel keys because it screws up their cutting wheel. I'll find someone and get it done. Also I only paid $34 when I got it so I guess the price went up.

    Thanks for all the info---
my main goal here was to find out if the 308 blank was the same as the 355, f40, f50 ect.
according to the dealer they said the f-50 was an exact match and that was it. And it was only about 30.00

thanks again--I have to laugh at the 70-90.00 prices at Italiancarparts--someone listed a link there--what a joke.

Well subtract the price of the trip to Italy,
But I had 4 sets of keys made for each car at a hardware store within walking distance from the Ferrari factory.
The cost of the 12 sets of keys was less than you guys paid for one black plastic covered key.
In fact the 12 new key fobs from one of the many Ferrari stores in town cost more than the keys.
    Ouch! 96 bucks!
I guess they figure Americans with an I Want It attitude will pay that price.

    Atlantaman,
Please report back after you get the F50 key made, and confirm it works.

Agreed about Italian Car Parts. They regulary charge 30% to 200% more than the FNA dealer. They are basically ripping off the uninformed consumer. People praise their good service...I should hope so at those prices! I have been warning about ICP for a couple years now on this list.

BTW, check out what they charge for the "dash lightbulb upgrade kit" for the 308/328. There are about $6 in bulbs there.....

Interesting that both the F50 and F40 keys work. Does anyone know if they have different part numbers? Do they look identical?
