Looks to be a wet one folks. Full wets throughout the weekend. Spa 2021??? Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yeah, I wouldn't take forecasts 7 days out that seriously. Ferrari should be the leaders again, but it's possible for a good setup from Red Bull or even Mercedes could make them strong.
I thought the FIA were "going to find a solution" to Spa 2021??? If so, I wonder what Plan B will if it is a deluge.
Agree, too many variables with a wet weekend. It’s ok if your team is not doing well (cough, Mercedes, cough) because of the randomness of a rainy weekend, but when we expect a good result, better to be a dry and uncomplicated weekend.
Sprint race qualifying: so unlike last year, the fastest driver on Friday afternoon will be attributed ‘pole position’. But like last year the grid for the Sunday race will be set by the result of the Saturday sprint race.
Red Bull downplays talk of big F1 upgrade package for Imola Red Bull Formula 1 chief Christian Horner downplayed the suggestion the team has a big upgrade package planned for its RB18 car at Imola, saying any developments are an “evolution”.
updated wet race rules following SPA: (not sure if there are Sprint race rules or they are the same) From now on, in order for a result to be awarded, two laps must be completed under green conditions—green conditions defined as racing without either the Safety Car or Virtual Safety Car slowing the cars. The points structure for truncated races has also been amended. For races in which two laps are completed, but 25% distance is not reached, only the top five finishers will be given points in the structure of 6, 4, 3, 2, 1. For races 25 to 50% distance races, points will be given to the top nine finishers in the form 13, 10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. For races between 50% but under 75%, points will be issued to the top 10 but in the order of 19, 14, 12, 9, 8, 6, 5, 3, 2, 1.
Well, if they decide to handle it the same way they did at Spa 2021, it will just be another scandal.... What do they care? Crooks. https://www.essentiallysports.com/f1-news-f1-fans-are-enraged-over-a-shallow-compensation-deal-offered-after-washed-out-belgian-gp/
If the wet track reduces speed, none of the teams may face porpoising...and that could shuffle the deck quite a lot. Perhaps giving Mercedes and RB advantages while taking them away from Ferrari. We could find ourselves without a podium. Could be a tricky weekend for us. Pray for dry weather and a fast track.
Thursday and Friday forecasts show a +90% chance of precipitation. That goes down only slightly for Saturday and Sunday to +70% chance of rain.
https://www.planetf1.com/news/red-bull-hopeful-engine-problems-solved/ Reliability. We had to take a lot of punishment and we are now well behind Charles Leclerc. However, we have dealt with things quickly,” Marko told Austrian broadcaster ORF, when asked which out of Ferrari’s pace or Red Bull’s reliability had concerned him most. “The problems we had in Bahrain were different to the problems we had in Australia and also different to the problems we had during the winter tests. But according to Honda, we can count on the problems being fixed before the next race.” Marko added that Verstappen’s failed power unit from Melbourne will be available for him to use again as part of their pool for the season ahead, lessening the likelihood of him having to take a grid penalty further down the line. But he also said that porpoising, the bouncing on the cars caused by the ground effect aerodynamics ‘pulling’ the floor towards the track surface, was a factor in Verstappen’s retirement last time out, but believes the team have now eliminated the worst effects of it. “Everything is fine with that,” Marko confirmed. “The problem was not in the engine itself, but in the fuel line. That cracked under high pressure. And we think that had something to do with the problem of porpoising. “We do indeed have porpoising well under control, but nevertheless there are small movements and that is mainly to do with the way the car ‘lands’ again. We assume that this was the main cause of the damage to the fuel line.”
Has anyone go the real meaning as to why sprint races exist in the first place? I am still unable to wrap my head around this new phenomenon introduced since 2021. Not starting a flame war.... just looking for answers.
I don't get it either. FP1, Quali, FP2, Sprint. Car is in parc ferme after quali, so why FP2? Not like anything can be changed.
The sprint race is just trying to jazz up the weekend for tv viewers. Sadly it is an unnecessary risk to the cars and drivers.
^^^^ Yes its all about viewers and ad revenue. The motor racing soul of F1 was killed many many years ago it is now just morphing into whatever brings in the maximum revenue. The younger generations will just have to watch Youtube to see what true F1 racing was all about.
Chuck gets his watched snatched off his wrist . . . . https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/f1-championship-leader-leclerc-robbed-of-320000-watch/10044105/
