Own a 2003 Modena and during the last year the surface of plastic on doors is deteriorating. Able to smear surface with finger. Any suggestions for antidote other than replacing...?

It sounds like you are talking about the stickies, a very common and much discussed issue. It isn't the plastic, it is the soft touch coating. StickRX can help with that.

The good news is, parts that are molded in black plastic can be scrubbed with Goo Gone or acetone. Do not use acetone on aluminum parts or plastic parts that are molded in white such as window switches. Last Resort, send them out to get refinished. Here are a couple before and after photos of some parts I recently did...

    Hi Steve,

I replied to your email this morning. While cleaning off the soft touch can be done, the results are nothing like proper refinishing. In many places, cleaning the parts will remove the graphics and it will also have a bare plastic finish.

It's surprising how many cars suffer with it. To date and cars I've owned.
    F355
    1997 Alfa Spider.
    2005 Alfa GT
2006 Alfa 159 (not so much though)
2004 Mercedes CLK. This is actually only the volume/on/off button on the factory radio/CD but it's there.

My 2001 360 does not seem to be having any sticky good issues... yet o_O

Excellent thread and I know it is only time. I'm very aware of it and the repair methods and options because of the cars I've had :)

What is odd is that companies such as yourselves produce a similar durable finish. Perhaps these manufacturers need to reconsider the processes used and possibly select different contractors to refinish the parts.

Ferrari is specifying the use of soft touch - it's not up to the subcontractors. Companies such as Porsche, McLaren, Land Rover all use hard touch coatings comparable to ours.

Congrats on joining the sticky club. My 456M had a terrible case when I bought it. And this was before Dave was around to help.
