Micro Mini, an entirely new technology, and software from those that proceeded it, apples and guacamole..... next? You add in drive by wire and the whole game changes.

Damn !!! I miss that guy !!! RIP Frank.

    +++++++++++++++

Incidentally, after completing a personal inspection tour of the facilities and installation process today :D, I recommend shipping your car to SR for the GCK installation, rather than bothering with DIY --- I have full confidence in the technician :)

Dave ---- apologize to Jen for me as it occurs to me that I probably annoyed the hell out of her watching over her working the whole time we were chatting !! ;)

Richard ---- I would have liked to have been able to stay in town long enough to catch up to you after work, introduce myself, and buy you a beer.... but I had to beat it up to Estes (to squeeze in a bit of fly fishing) and then get back on the road ---- next time :)

No need for apologies, the Smurf didnt mind. Jenni and Nikki are far better at the job than I am! Nikki had a good point years back, there are some things a woman is really good at, finite details without brute force.... she very well may have had a good point in her statement "if you have a problem with this step, go get your wife"... hell, I dont want to even consider she was right on that point, but I have watched it work.

It was a real treat to see you again after these years apart, I hope it happens more often in the future. Heck, I hope we even bump into one another on a stream... I would like to think I can do that again before I am unable to tie on a nymph, sometimes I wonder

#8 geeze that's a giant fly. A feisty Big Thompson beauty? You got to go North or South of where you are... Some of us have to get together and take Dave Flyfishing. We owe him at least a great trip and then we will have more lies to tell. Where is TAZ?

Yepper --- It had just rained hard up higher about 3 hours earlier, so, the Thompson was pretty murky down canyon where I was......hence the need for the bigger size --- helps fishy find it (and helps my old eyes see it, too) :).

Next time I'm out, I plan to have more time to get in a proper fishing trip down to 11-mile or on the South Platte (assuming it isn't on fire at the time ) ---- North up to the Poudre would be good, too.

I agree, I think we will have to bust in and kidnap Dave --- throw him in a gunny sack in the trunk before he knows what's going on --- if we talk a bit about Ferrari repair while on the water, he should be able to write the cost of the Scotch off as a business deduction, no ?!

He..He..he..If you talk about "work" you are going "in" the water. Zen in flyfishing can only be attained by a pure mind. We have to live up to the tradition of flyfishing snobs before us and leave "that" kind of talk to johnny six-pack and his can of worms.

Sorry for the thread drift. I will stop now.

Ah Hell, you guys are Killin me!

I put the camper in the truck this spring and fixed that all up. Rewired the horse trailer after tearing the harness out on a stump in Eagles Nest Wilderness two years ago. I even pulled all the rods out to see if the line had dry rotted off the reels since we had last been out. Last year the fires that were close to the house kept us at home to get ready to evac. This year........... I dont even know what happened to this year, it just went away when I wasnt looking.

The horses stare at the 2 bale bags filled and ready to throw on the top of the trailer, and are digging a tunnel to get to the trailer. Everyones ready but me........ and I cant find my wader shoes for the life of me. I spent the winter helping a Ferrari Friend prototype and machine up a Blood Knot tool that he invented, a brilliant thing it is. Getting to the stream never left my mind all winter because of that.

About this point I would be happy to sit in a lawnchair on the bank with a cane pole, having a beer with Taz355. Its doubtful I could even tye on a #22 Midge these days, let alone see it.

Didn't even know you were in town. Surprised we didn't pass by one another at Dave's since I'm right across the street. I was only there 3 out of 5 days last week. I'm like a bad penny...or worse.

Well, yeah sure...... yours is bigger than mine ---- but, my wife keeps reassuring me that size doesn't really matter :p.

Forget about the tin vs. gold connector debate --- that has been hammered plenty --- this thread probably done.

However, someone needs to open a new thread about a much more critical debate ---

fishing with wet flies vs. dry flies (and which is more "artistic and Zen-like") :) LOL

Since you guys are such good buddies....

what works better Tin or Gold flys?

I find the gold works much better....i have no facts .....but I catch alot of fish ....so its proven.

They are better dry....putting stabilant 22 on them seems to repel the fish. I'm not sure if it is the taste.

(I mean...since we are so far off topic) You can now use a gopro on a trolling line to get data....but I forgot....we dont like data.

We turn over a lot of rocks to see what ugly stuff lurks under them in a stream, Tim. Once you open your eyes it is quite amasing....... perhaps you will give it a try one day. Find a rock.........

Arguments posed with data used completely out of context. It makes for good fodder but that's about all. This swill has far more to do with politics than any design issue and I think most can read that quite plainly with the data already laid out.

    Hey guys,

Sorry to break up the love-fest and the jibber jabber about fly fishing but as the resident OP around here I just wanted to get back on thread and mention that my GCK install moves forward apace, but at a slower pace that I might have liked due to work/life/reality obligations.

I'm probably 40% through it now. I'm going very methodically and just about test-driving the 355 after every connector being done so I can narrow down any issues that might crop up and/or assess the difference.

I'm still getting CELs and with the 02 sensors and harnesses done now (both sides) and still getting the 02-related CELs I am beginning to think I might need to get new 02 sensors.

Quick question for Dave & co: I assume that since we are putting gold terminals on the sensors themselves that when we replace those sensors we would need to retrofit gold terminals on the NEW sensors going in, yes? Seems logical, and another reason to order more connector terminals that you need so you've got plenty around for new 02 sensors and the like.

My kit that I installed 6 months ago did not have connectors on the O2 sensors to replace. Has this been added to the kit or are you getting ahead of yourself in thinking that you will be replacing connectors on the O2 sensors?

    Hi Ketel,

Re gold on sensors. Yes, those that you replace with gold should also be replaced if you put in new sensors. Gold on Gold is better than tin on tin, gold on tin is to be avoided.

Back to your O2. You may recall that back when this started I recommended that you test the O2 sensors. The codes you were reporting at one time were HEATER CIRCUIT SHORTED. That is an easy test. Measure the impedance of the O2 sensor heater and it is either short, open of in the area of a few ohms. If it is shorted it is bad. No if's and or but about it. If it is open it is bad, no if and or buts. If your O2 sensor is a 4 wire sensor, there should be two wires the same color. They are usually the heater circuit. measure the impedance between the two black wires using a multimeter.

    Ketel,

I agree with John ....you should be able to test that circuit.

On my 512tr....I follow the circuit to the o2 sensor. It comes out of the 55 pin harness and goes to a connector bellow the air box. At this point bellow the air box, the 02 sensor is connected. If the 355 is the same, you should be able to test the continuity at this connector to see if the sensor is bad.

Lets say your o2 sensor proved to be bad, then a replacement should solve your problem.

However, if it is normal, then the short could be at the connector below the air box (at least on the 512 tr) or it could be at the ecu interface.

Have you done the large harness at the ECU?

This all sounds reasonable but I am going to need one of you to send me a link or whatever to learn how to perform this test. I have a multimeter but I have to admit I never used it as it just came in a box with no instructions.

Can someone send me a link to perform this? YouTube video?

Incidentally, I just pulled the latest crop of CELs and, it's not encouraging.

The CEL count is going up. Started at 8...went to 5....then 7....now at 10.

    They are:

P0132 02 Sensor Circuit (Upstream Catalyst) (Bank 1, Sensor 1)
P0138 02 Sensor Circuit (Downstream Catalyst) (Bank 1, Sensor 2)
P0152 02 Sensor Circuit (Upstream Catalyst) (Bank 2, Sensor 1)
P0158 02 Sensor Circuit (Downstream Catalyst) (Bank 2, Sensor 2)
P1115 02 Sensor Heater Circuit (Upstream Catalyst) (Bank 1, Sensor I)
P1117 02 Sensor Healer Circuit (Downstream Cat.) (Bank 1, Sensor 2)
P1119 02 Sensor Heater Circuit (Upstream Catalyst) (Bank 2, Sensor 1)
P1121 02 Sensor Heater Circuit (Downstream Cat) (Bank 2, Sensor 2)
    P1448 Catalyst Bypass Flap Circuit
P1449 Catalyst Temperature (Vescovini) (Bank 2)

    Thoughts?
