Qualifying became boring and just a formality because it was dominated by Red Bull for the past 4yrs, you and I both hope that is not the case in 2014.

Once again, agreed! ;) [Although I'd go as far to say "often" more exciting than the race!]

However, outside of KI & pole being a formality I still like the Q1/2/3 approach. They're still stunningly close and working really hard.

Want to beat him? Build a quicker car and/or find a quicker jockey. [Easy, right!? ;)]

As much as I'm not a fan (although that's softening some), he certainly turns some *beautiful* laps though - It may not be "exciting", but it sure is impressive.

    Cheers,
    Ian

I remember those days, they were horrible. Better a boring qualifying than a boring race. Overtaking has been for the most part been much better the last few seasons, than it used to be.

Well now both are boring, so...

    I know, what's going on here :D

Me too. The format isn't the problem.

No argument from me there. But the days of a single, 90 minute quali session with an empty track for the first hour really sucked!

Then of course they'd all whine about how they got baulked on their quick lap. This Q1/2/3 format is great I feel - Certainly one of their better tweaks.

    +1

Although, the "purists" will tell you it's now all too contrived and that running in a long line with overtaking impossible were the "golden years"..... ;)

    Cheers,
    Ian

    No drama?
The two teams fighting for hind tit have forty million dollars at stake. If one scores a single point next race they take it all and the other may not survive.
I call that high stakes drama.

It is drama, but along the lines of NFL's last place team getting 1st draft choice....most fans are OK reading about it in the paper.......next month. :)

Pretty much exactly what I've been trying to say for ages - Thank you sir! ;) And not just the hind tit either - There's still some battles being fought all thru the field.

Having said that, I continue to find "enjoyment" & "entertainment" value in watching, eg, Seb put in a lap or two that simply demoralizes the others. Making it look as easy as he does is awesome viewing IMO. Damn, even Rocky is on the blower telling him to slow-the-****-down!

    Boring? Nah. ;)

    Cheers,
    Ian

Gary Anderson sums it all up quite nicely:
"Fernando Alonso secured second place in the world championship in Austin on Sunday and he will probably say he has won the non-Red Bull championship."

Great, Ferrari can make a plaque that says "winner of the 2013 non-Red Bull Formula 1 Championship" on their road cars.

I thought the 458s, F12's and FF's all have this plaque on the passenger side dash?
