I believe you Ian. I have very little experience of USA aside from a couple of trips to LA and Vegas, so I'm hardly an expert. I am only commenting based on what I have read, and doco's I have watched. So, am I unimformed? Probably yes.

I'm certainly not anti-American. But, I suppose I'm just as guilty of believing what I read/see.

Actually there is an interesting dichotomy here - I agree with Ian that for Australians, American cities do not generally feel unsafe, especially compared with places like Sydney CBD at night. BUT just read threads like the FChat silver thread on guns and you realize many AMERICANS have a far different perception of their safety. Many, especially middle class or upper, apparently are quite afraid of robbery, violence, breakins, car theft etc and then they have the very unique fear of the 'government going bad' which is a big line in the pro-gun discussion.

Is there a line (queue) I can get into to get these guns that "mentality unstable" people get their guns at? Becuase I have yet to see one in person.

Because I'd love to find it especially with all of them in one line haha

Giving guns away that's rich haha

The real issue is doing a metal check on people Most of these checks relys on the person being truthful and that's impossible.

For the past 30 years, I've lived in the U.S. and Canada off and on. Several states and two provinces. In Arizona, they allow open carry without a permit, so does Washington State. I feel safer in those states over Canada with gun control. The truth is and I see it everyday, the criminals and disturbed will still have guns. The unarmed become better victims. My small town 40 minutes from Vancouver, was once known to have the most churches per capita in Canada, in 08 and 09 it was murder capital of Canada, 99% of the murders committed by illegal firearms. We still have several shootings per month. Gun control has not stopped the criminal, its made it worse. We also have a high number of home invasion robberies and muggings. In the U.S. because of a guns criminals think twice before mugging you or when they break into a house. Canada they don't!

Gun control also leads to another weapon choice. Just google machete robberies UK!

Most gun fatalities occur in the home - husbands and wives killing each other, and young children playing with them. Your comments are completely subjective and unsubstantiated. I feel safer, most churches, criminals think twice - really? Just leave it out, the grown ups are talking.

I had to laugh when the lawyer for that "alleged" terrorist on the French train put forward the case that he was just going to commit a robbery, despite the number of guns, including a Kalashnikov, and rounds found in his possession (and despite being on Interpol's lists and having recently viewed a jihadi video on his phone).

Now he's claiming he found the bag under a bush.

You can fill a large book with examples of left wing bias by lawyers. The part I can't work out is when did "progressive" politics become wedded to 7th century Islam? Useful idiots, the lot of them.

Id like to see the stats on spousal murder and children death by accidents involving firearms. This is what liberals usually say, when you point out criminals will still have guns. It becomes about the children. Id bet my town with strict gun control, has more shootings then most anywhere in the U.S. Outside of Chicago (they have gun control) or Detroit.

Oh more children drown in bathtubs in the U.S, vs accidental shootings. So by liberal logic we should ban bath tubs! Swimming pool drowning is also higher. Just like the bath tub or swimming pools, parents probably could have prevented the accident with some common sense.

Washington State state constitution specifically states a resident of the state has the right to protect themselves with a firearm. You can legally carry a firearm without a permit if the gun is visible. WA has a lower violent crime rate, lower murder rate, and lower property crime rate over neighboring British Columbia with strict gun control.

You know what? You guys are right.

There is no issue with gun violence in the U.S. when compared with other similarly advanced societies. None at all.

    It's all going swimmingly.

    Carry on.

When you factor in the sheer size of the U.S. population to other countries, its no worse. Like Canada, 35,675,834 people, compared to the United States of 321,522,000 people. Fact is Canada with gun control is more dangerous.

Yes, their murder rate of 1.6 per 100,000 is much more dangerous than the USA with 4.7 per 100,000. I see how we were obviously wrong about this.

China has one child per family as population control, American has guns. Seems fair.
