Guns do make it easier to kill yourself when depressed and it's "usually" a no miss policy ...... unless you're Wes :p

They can't stop them if they ARE present.

Because most of them don't have the training to do any good in this kind of situation anyway. If a off duty cop, who was in the club working security couldn't stop the guy, what good is some moron with no skills, who has never even shot his gun without sound deadening ear muffs on, or outside a range, going to do in a crowded club? Answer, nothing.

You'd have more luck assuming you're going to die, and doing a mad rush at the guy with all of those around you than one guy with a gun. Unless he's skilled, trained, and calm. Just ask the cops how many rounds they shot at this guy. Or ask one who has been in a shootout how accurate their shots were. It's not easy to kill a guy, even when your life depends on it.

Even with all the training in the world, one guy with a handgun vs. a guy with a semi-automatic rifle is going to have to be more lucky that skilled to win that confrontation.

Everyone in Florida has a gun. Most do NOT have a carry permit, and I'm guessing that the average age and societal makeup of the club doesn't run parallel to our gun totin' Florida red necks, meaning there wouldn't be any citizens in the club ready to take on a crazy man.

The whole selfie thing is a little gay, isn't it? Anyone who took that many selfies is leaning that way in my mind. ;)
She'll be indicted, she went on scouting runs with him to potential targets. She went with him when he bought the ammo, and she's already admitted that he told her he wanted to be a martyr for Islam.

She's going down. Probably get 200+ years in Federal prison before it's over. Which, if the stories are true, will be well deserved.

What I find infinitely more frightening are the targets he picked. Disney is pretty vulnerable, Disney Springs is VERY vulnerable, and always packed with people, and there are not a lot of ways out, short of jumping in the alligator infested lakes.

I'm guessing that Disney is already working on metal detectors for the entrances to Disney Springs, which they do not have now. They already have them at their pay for entry parks in Orlando. Disney Springs is really a big indoor/outdoor shopping mall, so security has never been tight. But now, I think those days are over.

The private citizen with a gun is probably more trained than the criminal with a gun.

Other than holding it sideways the perp probably has no idea how to shoot.
They don't take gun safety courses. They don't go to the range.

We don't know the circumstances of the killing of the security guard but I doubt he "lost" because he wasn't trained enough.

And it's not the idea that armed citizens do a Wild West gun stand off. A few additionally armed participants would have most definitely slowed down if not outright killed the Muslim terrorist.
You make it sound harder than it is. Every year there are tens of thousands of documented successful defensive gun uses against criminals.

Other than the initial surprise the terrorist is not that much in advantage against other armed citizens.

Genuinely infantile. I hope you're joking.

Totally agree. Anyone who takes selfies has a strong Y chromosome thing going on.
Especially if they then post them on social media.

    Social media is SFP.

Hey Kai, Nice to see you down under.

I suppose, in some circumstances, this is true, but the perp has no concern for others, so he doesn't have to worry about shooting an innocent bystander by mistake.

And you and I both know that getting a carry permit doesn't require any kind of combat or confined space training. It's just a, "Learn to load and shoot" kind of training, maybe some how not to shoot yourself by mistake training as well.

I doubt any cover weapon retention, off hand firing, etc., all fairly critical police/combat skills, along with the requisite scenario training.

My wife beat me to death with scenario training, we'd go over and over it, and I can shoot proficiently with either hand, two or one had grip, etc, and I still am not sure what I would do in a situation like this. (Although I do know, if I had a totally clear line of sight, I'd shoot the sum*****.)

the security guy was a little slow on the uptick. As I understand it, the perp got into the bathroom with most of his victims before the security guy could get off a shot. Doesn't take much delay to come out on the short end of this kind of confrontation. More security guys might have tipped the scales.

I worked security, a million years ago, for the Pinkertons. I gotta say, we were alert, but not hyper alert, given the circumstances of what we guarded. But my period of employment was in the late 70's, and the times were way different. We were mostly looking for guys with booze, not guys with guns.

Just out of interest, we had an incident in the last week where a police officer - who presumably had excellent and up to date training - managed to shoot two innocent bystanders in the process of shooting an offender who was but four metres away.

I can only imagine the classic P & R scenario which is dreamed up where everyone within 50 metres pulls out their weapon and starts firing at the "bad guy".

    Yeah. That'd turn out well...

Most ranges here don't extend past 50 feet or about 15 meters. Most guys I watch shoot much closer than that, maybe 15-20 feet max. with a handgun.

Training to shoot longer distances really shows how inaccurate shooting can become. One of these days I'll scan a 15 foot and 50 foot target and you'll see the difference is astounding. I get nice tight groups up close, at distance I'm just happy to stay on the target.

I try to train short to warm up, then longer until my targets are at the back of the range, which, like I said in most instances is no more than 50 feet.

I'd suggest that most 50 foot shootouts would product more bystander injuries that perps. BUT, the deterrence of having someone shoot back might be enough to send the bad guy back out the door, saving some lives. This is not a scenario I'd like to try and prove.

    Yes is the answer.

He is both for, and against gun control, depending on the audience, day of the week, how much wind is whistling through his hair, etc.

If we elect that nut bag, I'm gonna think about moving to Belize.

Which is why I had myself permanently removed from access a few years ago. Got tired of arguing with the ultra conservative right in P&R. And yet, somehow, when I saw some of the drivel posted there, I couldn't help myself.

    Much better this way.

They have some great fishing there, watched some great videos on it, get a boat and invite me over :)

I got P&R removed from my profile over 10 years ago, at first it was a great learning tool where people would link to interesting sites with great info, then it degenerated into dribbling with nutjobs pushing their wheelbarrows full of hate and misinformation, was only upsetting me and I'm too stupid to NOT go in so I asked Rob to remove it from my profile, much happier now :)

I consider myself pretty right wing. Some of my friends consider me so right-wing that when they host a dinner party with other friends, politics is "not allowed".

Well..... at least until dessert is done and dusted, and everyone can run home once I offend them... :D

But, P & R on this website is so juvenile it makes me shake my head.
Sadly, it proves that there are stupid people on my side of the line as well, unfortunately.

Either that or there are a lot of 12 year olds driving Ferraris in the U S and A.

The trouble is, whilst it would be quite funny from a hypothetical "you deserve what you're gonna get" perspective, the number of real people who didn't vote for him but would be measurably, substantially hurt by that result might find it significantly less amusing :(
