Question: why would a man refuse to take the stand to testify to his own innocence? Maybe when he's more afraid of his god's punishment of lying than he is of the civil procedure? His main defence is that it couldn't have happened since it was a busy area - hiding in plain sight, like most of the priests were. I wonder how many witnesses never came forward because of their fear of the heirachy?
And that's the problem Pat, "we" hear what the media want to report and put their spin on it .... I don't like Pell because he seems aloof and "holier-than-thou" but that shouldn't be the judgement ..... his mouthpiece is high profile and wants to stay there from the sound of him But the judge HAS heard all of the information and has revoked his bail .... speaks volumes of what the legal system thinks of him
Because when people have already made their mind up (like my mum would have if she were on the jury) anything the accused has to say can and will be used against them, it's all up to interpretation It'd be like PP being on trial for being an arsehole ...... most of the people would believe it but some of us know it's not ENTIRELY true
That’s the thing. You’d never want to be tried by a jury in this kind of situation. Most of them would have made up their minds before the trial even began. Does the defendant have a choice in this?
Karen, which juror were you? He’s been found guilty by a jury, however I wasn’t aware any information had been made public.
Did you not see the video of Pell's first police interview? And ii I recall correctly, it was his lawyer outside the court who said Pell would not take the stand.

The only thing I give a **** about is if he was wrongly convicted and there's been a miscarriage of justice. That's never a good thing, no matter what.

The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”― Edmund Burke Apathy on the part of the sensible majority is why our rights are being steadily eroded by the state. The justice system is now firmly in the hands of the left, with activist judges prominent in every state. The majority of judges are scrupulously impartial, but the activists have a disproportionate influence over perceived community expectations and thus outcomes in politicized cases.
