I drove to the supermarket this afternoon to pick up a missing ingredient. There were not many people there but I still tried to park my car far away from everyone else. When I came out, of course a beat up golf diesel was parked right next to me. Take a look at this pic.... The guy couldn't find another space anywhere but right next to me???!!!! Ridiculous

That happens to me all the time. I park in the back of an open lot... and someone still snugs right up next to me.

My favorite is when you're the only car in the lot and they park so close you have to get in the passenger door. It's always a beater car that does it..

    It happens.

Parked at a McDs in a section nobody was using.

A guy and his family of five in a red Golf parked right next to me. there were another dozen places empty in that row.

turns out he wanted to show his family the 458. didn't touch the car but looked all over for quite some time.

Meanwhile a crew was blowing leaves and dirt off the parking lot. I heard one of them say: I am not getting within 50 feet of that Ferrari.

    You gotta love that! :D

Herd mentality. Same reason people mindlessly line up at a stop light and leave an empty lane.

From a distance it's spot on for a 911. Nice DD you have, 3 pedal?

Oops, my bad !! Yep, I did take it for P-Wagen 911 :).

Regardless, you do know that I was just engaging in some respectful teasing, right ? No offense intended :).

Weird. Nobody has ever parked close to my 456M, but it IS Rosso Corsa, so it might actually scare them. It has unholy gobs of presence.

    Cheers,

none taken. and my response was meant to read 'little' instead of 'limitless' - ipad corrective spelling gone haywire.

i took the pic from that far away in order to show that there were literally hundreds of other spots to choose from other than the one right smack next to me !!!

luckily no dents. in geneva you can run a dd like that and most of the time you are alright - the competition is actually pretty stiff !

You care about your vehicle and for sure would not let your door slam into his. He/She saw this chance for security and parked next to your car for that reason. If they parked into an empty spot it would risk a car pulling in beside them and damaging it.

I have found that the best option is to have someone like that park beside your car for that reason. Chances are they appreciate your car and will leave a little bit of extra distance and be careful entering/exiting the vehicle. This will also prevent a careless person from parking next to you as they occupy the space.

TBH it's usually a win-win in that situation granted the beater gave you adequate space. Prime spots are end locations in which case you can brush all the way onto the line and leave plenty of space on the other side.

This is why I try to park next to nice cars. My car might be an old non-exotic, but I still don't want to see it dinged - so I carefully park next to people who obviously take pride in their cars. :)

    All the best,
    Andrew.
